Publisher's summary

It's crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you've been sober for so long.

Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation - it was just us.

It was just him - the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me - the alcoholic, pretending like I didn't want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn't make me crave him any less.

But we can't start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

Emotional roller coaster - an angst lovers dream!

A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner, narrated by Lauren Sweet, is an emotional, contemporary, friends to lovers, new adult romance. It is told from the single perspective of the main character, Brecks who goes by "B", and spans a period of 10+ years.

The story follows B's friendship with Jamie aka "Whiskey" through the years as they both experience various struggles and hardships as well as relationships. Their connection is likened to alcohol addiction as there is a continual magnetic pull between them which wreaks havoc on their lives. Bad timing, stupidity, circumstances, and stubbornness keep them apart for the bulk of the story.

This book is an angst lovers dream which will put you through the emotional ringer. The writing was lyrical, poetic, and completely stunning. I enjoyed the narration and found it to be engaging and captivating from beginning to end. The story was painfully heart-wrenching, and I've got to admit... I drank it in, savoring it, and I loved every last drop.

This book took me on a rollercoaster

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read/listened to. The story made me pull my hair, scream, swoon, cry and repeat. The character development of Jaime and B was nothing short of perfection. They just fit together! Kandi Steiner, thank you for writing this book. Off to the 5th anniversary edition I go.

So good!

Ever read/listen to a book that you couldn’t put down…. This is one of them…. And one where you wanted to be so annoyed at the main characters but you just get them…. Yup… that’s what Kandi Steiner gives in A Love Letter to Whiskey…. It’s so well written. It’s about young love, finding your self and truly knowing what you want out of life. With bad decisions, hurt people, not so good timing and finally growing up and realizing who you are…. It’s a wild beautiful ride.
The audiobook is amazing… and I loved the 5 year Whiskey POV!

Amazing Angst Filled Romance

A Love Letter to Whiskey is one of the top books I see people listing as their favorite angsty read, so I knew going in it was going to be an emotional read, but I was still not prepared for B and Jaimie's story. There was so much emotion, so much angst, so much pain. Kandi Steiner has to have some sort of magical powers when it comes to her amazing ability to write angsty romance. I loved every minute of this book, even the moments where B and Jaimie frustrated me. I kept switching back and forth between the e-book and audiobook, and the narration on the audible version is perfect. The narrator's voice was exactly how I imagined B sounding.

Holy hell

I am a total wreck after this book. I know that the writing was great. I really got into the story. I felt the characters. This author does a great job with her development, etc. blah blah blah.... But...
OMFG!
I wanted to rip my hair out for most of this book! It is so full of angst and (in my opinion) unnecessary self destruction and torture. I almost stopped listening but I was so invested in the characters that I had to finish it. Then, when I got to the ending I was pissed all over again cause after all the BS throughout the story the ending felt so anticlimactic and abrupt that I wanted to scream.
I cried, I screamed, I think I hit something during a couple places. I almost started hoping the either the H or h would just die and finish out this tragedy. It does have a HEA I suppose but it was unsatisfying.

The narrator was ok..... her voice is a lil annoying but you get used to it and eventually you don't even noticed it over all the screaming you'll be doing in your own head at the main characters (and the author).

Preparing myself to be stoned

I want to start by saying that I really wanted to love this book. Everyone I know that has read it has adored it, that leaves me to believe the issue is with me. This is totally my opinion and please don't anyone hate me.

Kandi is a very talented and the book was very well written. Her character development was off the charts. I have a hard time remembering character names when there gets to be too many but Kandi made every single character memorable and I had such a great connection to all the characters.

The reason why I am not rating this 5 stars is because I found the main characters completely immature and unrealistic. They ruined way too many lives, over and over, including their own and I just don't think anyone has the motivation to do that to themselves for over a decade. I was left frustrated, irritated and annoyed.

That being said, I listened to the book straight through, I couldn't stop just wondering how this madness would end. I never once considered not finishing it.

Lauren Sweet is not the narrator for me. When she is just telling the story, I think she's great. Easy voice to listen to and her tone is great. Then the narratives come in and her voice gets extremely whiny and high pitched and I just really don't care for it.
