Pregnant...and alone?

When Katie Rogers returns to Dundee, Idaho, it's not because she wants to. It's because she's disillusioned, broke - and pregnant. She was going to make something of her life in the big city. Instead she's paying a high price for trusting the wrong man.

Booker Robinson is the man she didn't trust, the man she'd left behind in Dundee...and the first person she sees when she comes back. But despite Booker's notorious past, he now has a successful business and a home of his own.

He's also spent two years getting over Katie. She's the last person he wants to see. But when her parents refuse to take her in, she doesn't have anywhere else to go, and Booker soon finds himself with a roommate - one who needs a father for her baby....

Katie's vowed she'll never trust the wrong man again. But sometimes a man isn't everything he seems. And sometimes he's more....

Bitter Heartless Small Town

After listening to the 3rd book of this disappointing series, it was hard to be believe that anyone would choose to live in Dundee Idaho. In spite of some entertaining moment, this book left me feeling depressed and disillusioned.

When Katie (25) returned to Dundee pregnant and destitute, her family turned her away, not caring if she starved or froze to death. Except for Booker, none of the town's residents showed an ounce of human compassion or kindness toward Katie or her unborn child.

While sympathetic, Katie was too immature and unrealistic to be interesting. She stayed in an abusive relationship with a drug addict for 2 years, probably because her parents never gave her unconditional love and support. It was sad how Katie groveled for approval and affection from her parents, yet ignored the man who genuinely appreciated her.

Ironically, ex-con Booker was the most decent and caring person in the entire town. Booker had previously taken in a disabled man (Dilbert) and an abused dog, then rescued Katie when he founded her stranded on a rural road. However Booker seemed too mature and confident to be interested in the pathetic Katie.

While Booker was a wonderful romantic hero, it did not make sense that he would stay in a community full of vicious gossips and narrow-minded jerks. When Dilbert was beaten by sadistic bullies, no one except Booker was willing to protect him - not the police or church-going residents. Nice!

Loved it!!

This book was easy, sweet and had my attention from the beginning. I absolutely loved the characters and, of course, Andi Arndt once again did a fabulous job making them all come to life. I may even read this one again at some point..

Good read!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Family of Her Own to be better than the print version?

I think that both audio and print forms are good. I listen to Ms. Novak's books on audio and I also have many of her books in print, too.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the overall evolution of Conner's feelings about what happen and the impact on Delaney's choices on his life.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was the wedding scene, when Conner was mentally reviewing his decisions, his life script, and free-spirit character while waiting to say "I do".

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I shook my head in dismay at Delaney's tactics.

Any additional comments?

Very good book. Paced well.
