Publisher's Summary

Not all dukes are created equal. Most are upstanding members of society. And then there's the trio known as Their Dis-Graces.

Hugh Philemon Ancaster, seventh Duke of Ripley, will never win prizes for virtue. But even he draws the line at running off with his best friend's bride. All he's trying to do is recapture the slightly inebriated Lady Olympia Hightower and return her to her intended bridegroom.

For reasons that elude her, bookish, bespectacled Olympia is supposed to marry a gorgeous rake of a duke. The ton is flabbergasted. Her family's ecstatic. And Olympia? She's climbing out of a window, bent on a getaway. But tall, dark, and exasperating Ripley is hot on her trail, determined to bring her back to his friend. For once, the world-famous hellion is trying to do the honorable thing.

So why does Olympia have to make it so deliciously difficult for him?

Wonderfully humorous and entertaining!

Loretta Chase has done it again! The story is an entertaining and witty with situations that had the main characters responding to circumstances that left me laughing out loud. The heroine/hero are characters that you want to know personally as they both are intelligent and extremely humorous. It is one of those books you just can’t put down!

Can't wait for the next in the series

Loretta does it again. I love the way she writes, her dialogues are hilarious. Lord Perfect is still my favorite with Last Nights Scandal coming in next or is Lord of Scoundrels second. If you haven't listened to her books give them a try. I love a good laugh with my romance.

A New Favorite

I love Loretta Chase, and this may be my new favorite of her books.

Though, to be honest, I didn't expect it to be. This kind of story with a love triangle is usually not my thing. I usually appreciate the fact that there is an underlying danger or other story present in her books as well.

But I was really captivated by Olympia, being a girl who loves to read and it always pragmatic, I loved seeing her journey. It made my heart ache to see her torn between duty to her family, and a desire to truly finally be herself. I really loved the moments of laughter and joy shared by the two protaganists and caught myself laughing along with them many times.

I can't wait for the rest of these Difficult Duke books, and I know I will be listening to this one again.

Each book better than the last! 5+ stars!

Another wonderful book by Loretta Chase.. Both of the main characters are likable with their strengths and weaknesses and great senses of humor. A wonderful, fun read where you can escape from life and just relax for awhile.

Another gem from Loretta Chase and Kate Reading

Once again, Chase knocks it out of the park. Reading's incredible performance elevates this delightful tale to the platinum standard, as usual. I've said it before....Chase and Reading together have a special alchemy that borders on the magical. Together they create a listening experience that defies gravity. Chase's words and Reading's voice equal perfection in my opinion. Rock on, Ladies!

This is yet another smart, funny, sexy-as-hell romance from Chase, at least as good as everything else she's ever written, if not better. There's a very smart woman, a duke who is more than a bit reckless, a large dog, a duel, an aunt with a sharp tongue and a sharper eye, and laughs galore. There are also two other dukes who figure large here and I suppose will get their own stories soon, but not soon enough for me!

If you like historical romance, if you like sexy romance, if you like funny romance, this is up your alley. Chase is an auto buy for me, I've had this on pre-order for months and listened to it immediately. Now I want to listen it again! I adored it, will listen to it often, and am only sad that I have to wait months for volume two in this new series.

Tedious

After 90 minutes I had to give up. I love many of Loretta Chase's books, but this one is sadly lacking in pace, plot and dialogue. I can cope with the usual romance tropes, ie recent chastity of male protagonist, hidden beauty in almost on the shelf bookish virgin. Multiple contradictions or a lack of proof reading added to the lack of good writing, left me unable to force myself to the all too predictable end. Lord of Scoundrels will be reread to help me forget this unfortunate production.

Too farcical

Could have been a good story, but was absolutely too farcical. I think Loretta Chase was trying to make this book similar to Lord of Scoundrels, which is my favorite book of hers, but it fell way short. There was no real heat between the H/H, but there could have been. The heroine is a great character and the hero is likable; however they just did not mesh well in my opinion. The relationship between the three Dis-Graces was over the top silly. The dog's character could have been better presented and some of the supporting characters could have been more supporting. Jones the young boy that gave directions is one supporting character that I have in mind. Also the chase/adventure went on way too long with no real pay out.

There were some amusing parts that I enjoyed, but I will not continue with this series because there is no one I care to follow. Kate Reading with all her talent deserves 5 stars, but she still could not pull this book out of the ditch.

Romantic comedy at its best

Engaging characters, witty dialogue and several very funny scenes make this an entertaining book. Perfect to listen to while knitting.

truly enjoyable

What did you love best about A Duke in Shining Armor?

the banter between the lead characters

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She makes you feel that you are observing the story from within. The distinct differences in voices/tones makes it seem less of a book and more as a movie.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes very much. I couldn't wait to see what they got into next.

Any additional comments?

Felt like I personally knew each of the characters. The creation of their personality and attitudes were spectacular.
