Publisher's Summary

THE SERIES WITH OVER A MILLION BOOKS SOLD

The highly anticipated third book of the A Shade of Vampire series!

"Bella Forrest never ceases to amaze me! ... A Castle of Sand is the best yet, in my opinion... Once I started to read this story I couldn't help but be captivated, the world Bella Forrest has brought to us is EPIC." (Lady Amber's Reviews)

What Sofia has with Derek feels like a sandcastle; temporary and something that the waves of life and time will soon ruin...

Since the return of Gregor Novak, the island has turned several shades darker. His hatred toward Sofia and thirst for fresh blood lead to a brutal war igniting between father and son.

Meanwhile, the hunters are gaining formidable strength and resources by the day; they know that the safety of The Shade hangs entirely on its ability to remain hidden from them.

And a sinister secret lies in wait for Sofia within the bowels of an Egyptian desert ... a secret that threatens to crush her sandcastle much sooner than she could have expected.

Ugh. The narrators...

Okay, am I the only person who feels like the girl who voiced Claudia should have voiced Sofia? I can't stand the constant up-ending of every sentence read by Sofia's character. And don't even get me started on Ben... I might just be reading the rest of the series....

Better with each book

The third in the Shade of Vampire series, A Castle of Sand finally got my attention beyond listening to Zachary Webber (I swear he could read the instructions for an enema and I'd listen). The story got some real (pun intended) teeth into it with the solidification of the relationship between Derek and Sofia, Ben's coming to his senses, the intrigue with Sofia's family and the Maslins, the threat to the Shade and direction the next book will go. It has taken my a bit to get used to the cast of narrators but darn, I really like it--adds so much depth to the book and makes it come to life more. I look forward to the next one; it's already downloaded and ready to roll.

Getting better

The beginning of the series was slow but I stuck with it and I'm glad that I did. I can't wait to read the next book.

entertaining story

I've really enjoyed the storyline thus far, this is the third book in the series that I've listened to. I not too fond of the female narrators voice so I may have to switch to reading the books instead of listening to them I'm if I'm going to get thru all 49 of them.

Keep it going

Sofia knows that what she has with Derek Novak, the Prince of the vampires, is precarious, at best. No matter how in love they may be, the fact remains that they’re world’s apart, and there are people everywhere who don’t believe they belong together. Like Derek’s father, who is furious that his son would put a mere human above his people and his family. Or Sofia’s best friend, Ben, who has joined the hunters and wants nothing more than to kill every vampire in the Shade. Or Sofia’s father, the head of the vampire Hunters, who is determined to rescue Sofia from the clutches of the evil vampire race.
Can Sofia and Derek overcome the challenges, or will their sandcastle fall?

The third installment of the series has a decidedly darker edge to it. Ms Forrest, while still focussing at heart on the relationship between Sofia and Derek, has taken more time in this novel to develop the plot. There’s more intrigue, cruelty and action - and I love it!
One of the things that really makes this series stand out is the different POVs. It’s unusual to use so many POVs to tell a story, but it just works so well here. It provides deeper insight into the characters and forces you to see the motivating factors behind the villains.

I must admit that there were times when I started to feel annoyed with Sofia’s character when described by Derek’s POV. Sometimes she just seems so ‘wilting damsel in distress’. I suppose this heightens his warrior image, but I did prefer the stronger Sofia as described from her own POV.

Overall, another well-written, fun, sexy, romantic installment that’s great enough to keep me reading the series!

Darker the story turns

Castle of sand is the perfect title for this Audio. I love the symbolism of how beautiful a sand castle is until the waves crash upon it. That really speaks to the spirit of the story. Audio number three definitely goes a little darker. Sofia and Derek face even bigger challenges and you get to meet more of the supporting characters and their back stories. The narration was very good. My only complaint was the narrator for Lucas. I don’t know why he has a accent or if it’s the time period he’s supposed to be originally from but it seems so out of place and every time he speaks, it throws the whole Audio off for me. Spoiler alert... book four should be Lucas free.
