Publisher's summary

Author Deeanne Gist, whose writing credits include People Magazine, brings the harsh beauty of colonial Virginia to life in her first novel. Reluctant love and shared faith blossom during the daily chores and arguments of tobacco farmer Drew O'Connor and Lady Constance Morrow. Constance is everything Drew despises in a wife - she cannot cook and she prefers mathematical equations to cleaning. Worst of all, she has red hair! But when the two are forced into a marriage of convenience, Drew soon realizes how blessed he truly is.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. There were many parts that caused me to laugh out-loud but it was also suspenseful and of course romantic.

It was a good story...

But many of the scenes went on for about 10 minutes longer than was really necessary. And although the drama between the two main characters was good and intriguing, it was kind of predictable. I probably wouldn't use another credit to buy another book by her, I'd just get it from the library and read it.

Nice read!

I really liked this book. After a few chapters, you get used to the reader. She did a great job. I liked how the book was set in colonial times instead of the much too common western pioneer times. This book (and author in general) is a much more suggestive than other Christian romance authors. Though nothing bad is described, there are a lot of sensual scenes. Nevertheless, it was a nice romance story.

Engaging and impressive!

This was my first experience with this author, and I was captivated. The historical detail was amazing, so well-done and thorough. The character development was beautifully done, and the story was complex and engrossing. I felt like I was in colonial Virginia experiencing the tumultuous story!

Lovely story And Made Me Laugh Laugh...!!!!

I just can say this is my first with the author and how much I enjoyed it, at first the story gave me the insight about the life as slave living in the British colony, but then the story developed charmingly with the witty characters that overall make the story interesting, especially when the lady loves mathematics, and the man being insulted.

Who's Been Hiding This Excellent Author

Gist + Tanner + A Bride Most Begrudging = A great read! This is my first Deeanne Gist book and I don't know why I've not heard of her? A colonial Virginia setting rates high my list. Gist writes reluctant love and shared faith to perfection. I never once wanted to slap one of the characters for being stupid. The daily chores and arguments were placed in the plot in a fun way. The plot moves quickly, but never leaves holes in the story. Tobacco farmer Drew O'Connor is believable with his past loss and Lady Constance Morrow's feisty personality delights the reader. I relate to the fact she can't cook, but can't comprehend her ability to solve mathematical equations. What I do appreciate the most is the realistic faith of these two characters. Lady Constance does not sound like a past Pastor's wife when she prays. She hasn't memorized volumes of scripture. Plus when Drew wants to know what God says about the marriage bed, he looks it up in scripture. Real life plot filled with real problems and real faith answers in a dangerous time. I found this book on Romance Package and I'm an immediate fan.
