Publisher's summary

After tasting financial success and the Shadow Knights’ power, Veron lost everything.

Now, trapped in slavery, jealous servants and harsh justice threaten his ability to fulfill his destiny. Caught between secrets he cannot divulge and attention from the master’s daughter, Chelci, Veron must choose between following the rules or following his heart as he fights to rise again.

Meanwhile, King Bale searches to kill the young shadow knight, and Veron’s old friend Brixton is the only one who knows where he is. Will the lure of power entice Brixton to turn on him again? His first betrayal nearly cost Veron everything. A second would cost him his life.

Grrrr

This writer is gifted in making a person become invested in the story. The narrator is likewise gifted. The story itself is well written and enthralling. All this, makes the issues more painful. Characters bend in personality and ability to fit a certain plot path. People with great ability become useless. Intelligent people stupid. One moment a person is capable of battle against a cross between a sabertooth and a stegosaurous and the next a spoiled child can defeat them. If it was all around badly written I would just dismiss these books as trash. It's because the author obviously has so much ability that the literary laziness hurts so much.

Book 2 it’s amazing too.

Wow, the series is really really good. I love the characters the storylines, and there is always something happening. No boring filler moments/paragraphs/pages.

Love the riding style and I totally recommend this epic fantasy series.

Tim Campbell is an incredible narrator, he brings the book to life.

Horrible pacing

Horrible pacing nothing tied it together. Could not get into it because there was hardly any fighting

A great book to listen to in the car

Enjoyed every moment of the book. I've been enjoying this series since I found it. "Rise of the Shadow" is a great middle book, meaning it helps set up the last book by putting the pieces into place. Character development could have been a bit better but overall it's a great book. can't wait to round out the series with the last book.

Predictable but fun

I loved the way this book was written and I am very excited to read the next one. I also loved examining the contrast between Veron and Brixton. However, I was able to predict what was going to happen for most of the book, however that is likely because of the events in chapter 1, and that this book has a lot of similarities to a story in the old testament (not saying which to prevent spoilers). I must say that Brixton is probably my favorite character to hate (if that makes sense). I love how we think he is going to be good only to be wrong again and again and again.

Do not buy

This story is awful. Totally unrealistic actions by the lead. Literally LOL moments that are so bad they’re funny

Mc just keeps getting worse

I thought okay maybe give the second book a try. I just don’t know why the main character is just so dumb. He makes the same mistake over and over. On top of that the girlfriend is just as bad. She gets caught like 3 times!! Why did she do all that fighting and training to constantly get caught not paying attention. One moment she’s fighting the next she’s getting caught with out any issues. I just don’t understand. They both just make dumb decisions over and over and even though Braxton has shown his actions over and over they are just surprised that he is actually a bad person. I mean how stupid are they! Also the men sent to the castle would have had some commander and it wouldn’t just be that easy to sneak that many soldiers in with no one noticing.
