Publisher's summary

Contains books 1 and 2 of the Rise of the Ancient Gods series.

If it's peace you want don't ever be Jon Ryan. He's lived two billion years in the android host he transferred to when asked to save humankind. Darn thing won't wear out. Since successfully ensuring the survival of the population of doomed Earth, Jon wanted to die. He was switched off with the promise of never being powered up again. Yeah, Jon's never been that kind of lucky. He was forced to fight and win a war with the most powerful enemy he'd ever faced, the Berrillians. Then he longed for rest.

Not in a universe that Jon lives in. A few hundred years after the Adamant War whispers of a new and existential threat began to be heard. People disappeared without a trace. Planets vanished without leaving a pebble behind. And someone was hiding impossible elements at the scenes of these mysteries. Anti-gold sitting right out in the open where it could not possibly be stable.

For better or worse Jon came to learn that the impending invasion of our universe would be by a species calling themselves the Ancient Gods. This malevolent, destructive, and merciless horde was bent on one thing alone. They wanted to have fun destroying our universe. They'd done it to others and couldn't wait to get the party started here. One factor, one force of nature stood between the Ancient Gods's success or their failure. You have to know it was the reluctant Jon Ryan.

But could he pull another miracle out of his hat? Could he triumph over the unbeaten Ancient Gods? If Las Vegas still existed no one there would touch Jon's odds.

Jon assembles his old crew, Toño, Sapale, Al, and his ship's AI Stingray. But they have little time to learn about their enemy and less chance of victory that ever before. After all they were facing god this time out. But, if there was an unwinnable fight anywhere Jon Ryan would rather be at the center of it than waiting to hear how badly it went. Yeah, #fighterpilot. You gotta love those jet jockeys.

Not the best work

I have listened to other works by this author and I enjoyed them immensely . This particular story I found a little a little too bizarre. There has to be a believability and the index and this one was beyond even my reach. but if you could get past all the bazaar descriptions it was ok.

My oddest review

I got the package deal on books 1 & 2. I found both books incredibly well written in a whacky unique way. I enjoyed every bit of it until the end of book two which basically sneaks up on you and before you realize it, the story is over.

I get the impression the author received a phone call and was told to finish the book in the next 30 minutes or he'll lose his book deal. the ending is so simple and abrupt I can't explain it any other way. truly disappointing. again..... amazing book up until the last 20 minutes. so odd.

Great

There are some repeated themes, but being mixed generously with new concepts, the stories create a enjoyable experience, at least for every”Jon Ryan” story I’ve listened to. A great writer, and a personal favorite.

(Or he could be the voice actor idk, w/e! Great SH..tuff!)

Written for my ADHD mind[yes that's good]

this is probably my favorite book I've listened too yet this year [it's my 14th so the pool isn't HUGE but definitely not small]

now a big problem people might have at this book is the constant silly banter between characters. it's easily seen as childish and I cannot say it's not. but what I can say is, its damn entertaining. the characters are all strange, this book is wierd and obviously the author let their imagination run a marathon with the crazy things and stories present

I'd give the book 5 stars I really would if there weren't a few plot holes and character inconsistencies around the end of book 2. [this is a package deal] It's also free too member's as I got it so it's DEFINITLY worth a shot. but if you don't like generally childish humor, you probably won't want to blow a credit.

the performance, however. they need to pay him double, no triple whatever they paid him because he let the silly book soar. every voice has personality and it's beautiful.
