Publisher's Summary

We're not just losing the wild world. We're forgetting it. We're no longer noticing it. We've lost the habit of looking and seeing and listening and hearing.

But we can make hidden things visible, and this audiobook features 23 spellbinding ways to bring the magic of nature much closer to home.

Mammals you never knew existed will enter your world. Birds hidden in treetops will shed their cloak of anonymity. With a single movement of your hand you can make reptiles appear before you. Butterflies you never saw before will bring joy to every sunny day. Creatures of the darkness will enter your consciousness. And as you take on new techniques and a little new equipment, you will discover new creatures and, with them, new areas of yourself that had gone dormant. Once put to use, they wake up and start working again. You become wilder in your mind and in your heart. Once you know the tricks, the wild world begins to appear before you.

For anyone who wants to get closer to the nature all around them and bring it back into focus, this is the perfect listen.

Clever and funny

Such a lovely, simple and clever book. I enjoyed it immensely, and much more than I expected. It’s also really funny, I found myself laughing out loud a few times, just because of how unexpected it was. Can thoroughly recommend it.

Meh

It's just not what I was looking for. I didn't pay to be read half of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. What I wanted was a guide make me feel more connected to the natural world. I feel a lot of the content is anecdotal and common knowledge where I would prefer to be learning things I don't already know.

Beautifully written and narrated

I am so happy that I bought this book, it is a real treasure. It is, also, a book to listen to more than once (and, as an audible listener with over 1000 books, that isn’t a recommendation given lightly!). It gives the reader/listener real ways in which to reconnect with wildlife, wherever they are.
I’m away to get my magic trousers on!

Good tips on Wildlife watching

A lovely, almost poetic listen.

As a result of this books recommendation, we have booked our summer holiday in Cardigan Bay, for a spot of dolphin watching.

A Treasury of Ideas and Information

I really enjoyed Simon's book. I say that as somebody who has been involved with the countryside for decades and who has held a passion for animals and birds for many years.
I started bird 'watching' over 55 years ago go ... and even with that background of information for British birds, I still found so many points of new information, novelty and interest within these pages.
Finally, I would add that this was so well read in this Audible edition ... measured and with great feeling.

Well worth listening

I really enjoyed this audio book. I consider myself a person who has a reasonable knowledge of our wonderful wildlife. This said there were so many points of interest and excellent tips on how to make wildlife watching even more pleasurable.
The narration was prefect too.
It was well worth the listen. I will certainly listen again.

Interesting, light and fun

This short collection of interesting essays is a nice little tonic if you're feeling a bit low or in need of some wild inspiration. It would also make a nice gift for younger listeners. It contains some genuinely good and practical advice on how to get closer to the UK's wildlife. The narrator is excellent - friendly, laid back, engaging... like the writing itself.

Loved it

I listened to this book in one hit , on a sunny Good Friday, whilst painting my fence!
It makes nature watching so accessible for anyone, it's not 'snobby ' at all . Some great ideas for getting out there and watching nature in your own way , and some ideas of places to go too. Highly recommended, I am looking forward to my walk in the woods later with my binoculars!
