Twenty-five years after the publication of his groundbreaking first book, Malcolm Gladwell returns in this New York Times bestseller that reframes the lessons of The Tipping Point in a startling and revealing light.

Why is Miami ... Miami? What does the heartbreaking fate of the cheetah tell us about the way we raise our children? Why do Ivy League schools care so much about sports? What is the Magic Third, and what does it mean for racial harmony? In this provocative new work, Malcolm Gladwell returns for the first time in twenty-five years to the subject of social epidemics and tipping points, this time with the aim of explaining the dark side of contagious phenomena.

Through a series of riveting stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering. He takes us to the streets of Los Angeles to meet the world’s most successful bank robbers, rediscovers a forgotten television show from the 1970s that changed the world, visits the site of a historic experiment on a tiny cul-de-sac in northern California, and offers an alternate history of two of the biggest epidemics of our day: COVID and the opioid crisis. Revenge of the Tipping Point is Gladwell’s most personal book yet. With his characteristic mix of storytelling and social science, he offers a guide to making sense of the contagions of modern world. It’s time we took tipping points seriously.

Editorial Review

What’s wrong with the world today?
I’m so excited to hear Malcolm Gladwell's latest audiobook, Revenge of the Tipping Point, which revisits and reframes his groundbreaking concepts from 25 years ago. The promise of gripping stories about everything from bank robbers to forgotten TV shows, combined with Gladwell's unique insights into social phenomena, has me eager to press play as soon as it hits my library. I'm particularly intrigued by how he'll explore the dark side of what he calls “contagious phenomena” and what new perspectives he'll offer on issues like the COVID pandemic and the opioid crisis. With all of the technological, political and social developments that have happened in the past two and a half decades, Gladwell’s newest listen couldn’t have come at a more critical cultural moment. — Rachael X., Audible Editor

Unparalleled insights

As someone who read Tipping Point, this is a wonderful addition to the thought process that goes into how big things can happen from small (sometimes very small) changes. Gladwell once again shows why he is a master of his craft. Highly recommend.

Refreshing and on point

I confess I almost stopped listening to this book. I am soooooooo glad I kept going. This provides insights to wake up and also take charge on some of the most pressing issues of the day, especially things that are growing on massive scales or tipping. I found the beginning a little slow and the music a bit distracting. Malcom is AMAZING. His narration is fantastic. The book really picks up steam and comes together, my opinion, in the second half. I did find it a little tough to keep the premise together. Would love a training or cheat sheet on the main findings he presents. It's enlightening. I'm especially intrigued by the overstory and how we can miss how close we are to something tipping because we're focused on the wrong, yet tempting, metrics. Thank you for revisiting your classic work with a fresh eye, Malcolm. Highly recommend. Perhaps a sequel or training would be how to choose and apply these techniques for positive change we want to tip?

So glad I read this

Well researched and explained. To my mind, Malcolm Gladwell never disappoints in his explanations. He has well described the tipping point phenomenon for us. Now he has done the same for the over story phenomenon. The good news is that an over story can be identified beforehand, whereas the tipping point is harder to notice beforehand (as he describes early in this book).

Straight to the point
