Publisher's Summary

Facing her future as a single mother, psychic Realtor Melanie Middleton is determined to be strong and leave her past with writer Jack Trenholm behind her.

But history has a tendency of catching up with Melanie, whether she likes it or not Melanie is only going through the motions of living since refusing Jack' s marriage proposal. She misses him desperately, but her broken heart is the least of her problems. Despite an insistence that she can raise their child alone, Melanie is completely unprepared for motherhood, and she struggles to complete renovations on her house on Tradd Street before the baby arrives.

When Melanie is roused one night by the sound of a ghostly infant crying, she chooses to ignore it. She simply does not have the energy to deal with one more crisis. That is, until the remains of a newborn buried in an old christening gown are found hidden in the foundation of her house.

As the hauntings on Tradd Street slowly become more violent, Melanie decides to find out what caused the baby' s untimely death, uncovering the love, loss, and betrayal that color the house' s history - and threaten her claim of ownership. But can she seek Jack' s help without risking her heart? For in revealing the secrets of the past, Melanie also awakens the malevolent presence that has tried to keep the truth hidden for decades...

Where is the next?

A fun, quirky read with quick wit and a fast pace that kept me intrigued throughout. I quickly became attached to the characters right along with each of their bizarre and funny idiosyncrasies.

Melanie our main character is pregnant and has just turned down a marriage proposal from Jack, the father. She is a head strong gal who thinks he is just asking because of the baby. He on the other hand is in love with her and is hoping she will reconsider. Melanie is a phychic, her mother has the ability to tell the history surrounding objects and they both can see ghosts. The people of Charlotte, NC have their suspisions and there is plenty of gossip, but Melanies family knows how to keep their secrets.

The backdrop for this ghostly story is her inherited historical mansion on Tradd St., of course, and during some renovations that are being done, the remains of a baby are found in the old foundation. While forensics are being performed on the remains, the crying, ghost sightings and a complicated pregnancy, just about have Melanie at her wits end. While she is trying to hold it all together she is also having to deal with her aggressive best friend, her shallow, impolite cousin and a wedding, not her own, that has been thrust upon her.

Aimee Bruneau is the perfect voice for this Southern group and has just enough sarcasm to make the dry wit hit home. This series reviews get better as it goes along so I may read the one right before this one but I am looking forward to continuing on with it as the new books come out. Recommend to those who like cozy ghost stories.

Satisfying addition to a fun series

What made the experience of listening to Return to Tradd Street the most enjoyable?

Karen White does a great job mixing paranormal mystery and romance, and it was very satisfying to have some plot lines resolved while still leaving room for re-visiting Charleston and Tradd St. The characters are very enjoyable, although their emotions, actions, and reactions become a bit repetitive and therefore tedious. This is especially true of Melanie, although the author does her best to remind us that Melanie is in effect, trapped in adolescence.

What did you like best about this story?

The series makes you visualize and want to see Charleston. My husband and I spent several days there last summer, and I came home and listened to the entire series again, so I have eagerly been awaiting this one.

Have you listened to any of Aimee Bruneau’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Aimee Bruneau perfectly captures the voices of Wells' characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Satisfying Conclusion to this Quartet

I don't know if Karen White has any more adventures planned for these characters, but this book provides a very satisfying conclusion to the Tradd Street quartet. As genre fiction, Romance novels tend to be predictable. The question isn't where the author is taking us, but how she gets us there. What sets the top echelon apart is the writing. A few (Diana Gabaldon, Susanna Kearsley, and Karen White, for example) can write circles around many authors of more "serious" literature. Their plots, characterizations and power of description are a step above. Yes, the men tend to be tall, dark, handsome, available and incredibly patient, but that goes with the territory. Here Karen White melds Romance and Ghost Story genres into entertaining stories. Each of the four Tradd Street books could, theoretically, stand on its own, but the series is best appreciated when read in order. Enjoy.

Pleasant light romance with a little paranormal intrigue

Romance stories alone don't hold my attention, but when mixed with my love of the South, and some interesting intrigue--in this case--a haunted house, this installment of that old house on Tradd street was satisfying.

a great read!!

the story combines the paranormal with the story of a family and its secrets in the south.
I have to say, the main protagonist annoyed me with her level of dial...but my spouse loved how much she resembled people they knew.
great book, great ending, and time well spent!! get this book!

I have really enjoyed this series!

The stories are entertaining and keep you guessing all the way through. The characters are believable and the relationships are meaningful. I highly recommend starting back at the very first Tradd Street house book and listening to them all. I look forward to more books by this author.
