Oh My Laird!

Such a sweet highland romance. Loved that the author took these two characters out of their regular environment for them to begin a new life together. I hope there's more to come with glimpses of these characters in future books of their clan perhaps.

If you have the chance, listen to the whole series from start to finish.

Exciting, captivating & thrilling romance.

Which character – as performed by Dave Gillies – was your favorite?

No one does a Scottish accent better than a scots man. Dave is great.

You can't fight destiny! Living all alone in a small cottage with her dog as her only companion, Lady Jane fears someone will return her to her husband's home and put her on trial for murder. A woman with a dark secret, learning how to care for herself without all the privileges she once knew, finds a Highlander badly beaten and near death on her step.
Laird Alexander feels responsible for his wife's death and his newborn son is a constant reminder of his dead wife. Needing time alone, he sails off without any true destination in mind. Alexander finds himself on English soil, badly beaten and left for dead. As Alexander continues to heal and Lady Jane continues to care for him, love begins to blossom between them. Destiny has it's own plans for these two lost souls, and soon find themselves in each other's arms. Seeking comfort, refuge, or just wanting to feel alive, becomes an experience neither one of them can forget or deny. I loved this story. I was on the edge of my seat with excitement. An absolute must read.

Loved it

This was another delightful story is full of passion, adventure, and I glad that both Alexander and Jane found love and each other, despite so many interferences from greedy and spiteful people.
I discovered another great voice in Mr. Gillies', easy to listen to, warm and passionate. Looking forward to listen to more of his narrations.

Highly recommend reading or listening to this.

I enjoyed listening to the story of Jane and Alexander. Alexander's guilt over the loss of his wife did not keep him from helping the secretive Jane. Despite the brutality of her late husband, Jane recognized her feelings for the Highlander.

Delightful story told in a real Scotman's brogue

My Thoughts: Even though a novella, this listen was rich in everything except its length. I couldn’t put it down and listened to it in one afternoon. This is the third book of Amy Jarecki’s I’ve read/listened and all are very fulfilling to my spirit. She exposes the wildness of the Highlands, along with some highly lovable highlanders, the brawny type with large egos and larger hearts.

This particular story was about Lady Jane Whitehaven whom we’ve met in an earlier book in the series. She has lots of demons to overcome. She’s hiding deep in the forest hoping not to be discovered by the new Lord of Whitehaven and the sheriff. Her days are bleak indeed for how does a woman not taught the skills of survival manage to take care of herself in the circumstances she finds herself? She loves her only companion, Max, a spaniel who happened upon her one week after she was spirited away from the castle by a loyal servant.

Laird Alexander Macleod, leader of the clan on a remote island of Raasay is beaten, robbed, and dropped off deep in the forest for dead far from his home. But dead he is not and stumbles into Lady Jane’s small decrepit cottage, forthwith losing consciousness. Too weak to turn him out, she agrees to have him stay to repair the cottage and fencing for the sheep, her payment for giving him sanctuary. They are both wounded souls in need of repairing who find solace together.

David Gillies does an excellent narration using his natural Scotsman’s brogue to tell the story. His speaking voice easily moves from narrator to Laird Alexander and using a more feminine tone to Lady Jane. His musical training and acting skills are apparent for his voice doesn’t overpower the story rather it participates in its creation, much like evenly-matched dance partners.

Even though this novella is part of a series, it is easily enjoyed in and of itself, however, if the reader knows the characters that are secondary to this tale, it would be more enjoyable. Ms. Jarecki’s characters are all worth knowing and the series is one I shall continue to follow.

Yes, it is well written and it can hold your interest. The narrator did a great job.

What other book might you compare Return of the Highland Laird to and why?

I can recommend all of Amy's books to readers. They are so very good and keeps your attention.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked it when the little dog licked his face and recognized him as a friend. You can't fool a dog or a child.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Power and Passion.

Good, Sweet But Too Short

Very enjoyable book. I love the action at the beginning, but I would have loved to have read/listened more about Alexander's life with Lady Jane or more of their adventure at the end.
