Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Jessica Park comes the long-anticipated sequel to Left Drowning.

A storm is coming, and with storms come restless waters.

Pulled from the depths of catastrophe and depression, Blythe McGuire has learned to escape from her past while embracing the future. A future now entwined in the Shepherd siblings.

With Chris, she shares a staggering romance that kicks heartbreak's ass.

With Sabin, she shares an intense friendship, one that's becoming more complicated than either had expected. A friendship now being put to the test because Sabin's brutal past still haunts him. Because trauma is the gift that keeps on giving without mercy.

Now Sabin is the one left drowning and struggling to breathe, and his turmoil threatens to send all three into dark currents they cannot escape. Even after going through her own hell, saving Sabin may take much more than Blythe had ever anticipated. Their connection and their love could help, but getting him to reach for her hand may be Blythe's biggest challenge ever.

Disheveled Book Blog Review

Any additional comments?

This book was an amazing addition to this series. Jessica Park has outdone herself again, even though it’s shorter than the first it’s still just a great. There’s emotion, turmoil and pain, love, friendship, and family. I highly recommend reading left drowning prior to reading Restless Water’s because you’ll not fully grasp this story without it.

All of the characters that you loved from Left drowning are back but the story for the most part circles around Chris and Blair, and Blair and Sabin. I loved this story for so many reasons, but one thing that stuck out so much to me was that Blair and Sabin reach a point where they are conflicted and Chris is there to help guide them. Without giving too much away, this too me showed how amazing Chris is, but also how their strong bond as “family” is.

I truly love Sabin, and I wish there was more for him. Maybe someday he’ll get his book but this was enough for now. You know like maybe he’ll find someone to love….Both are officially on my re-read list, technically Left Drowning has been there for awhile now and I have re-read it twice actually. It’s that good folks.

Not only was the story amazing the audio performance was superb. Arielle DeLisle’s narrations is perfect, she has a way of making an already great story even that much more enjoyable, she gives it life.

Now the unique part about this book/audiobook is Troy. His music brings a new and unique dimension to the story. But not only is his music and lyrics a part of the story he’s actually part of the audiobook. When Sabin is singing you hear Troy, his voice in the audiobook is stunning and breathtaking. The entire combination is one of a kind, and definitely shouldn’t be missed.

I highly recommend the entire series in both e-book and audiobook.

This book is everything

I fell in love with Left Drowning and this sequel did not disappoint. I love these characters and their spirits continue on through this book. The same amazing narrator and the embedded music added a whole new level that was so perfect. Thank you Jessica Park!!

Absolutely loved this!!

After finishing Left Drowning, I immediately jumped into Restless waters. I had to have more!! ( which the narrator was awesome!)

Once again, Miss Parker has left me kinda speechless. I loved Left Drowning so much, and Restless Waters did not disappoint! I loved Chris and Blythes story, and I wanted so badly to hear more from the other characters!

Sabin was such a great character, a loyal friend to Blythe. He became her family. They had a bond unlike anything she shared with anyone, even her own brother. I love his story!

If you've read LD (which you totally should!) you know the Shepherds had a messed up life. Heartache and pain. While Chris tried to shelter his sister and brothers, but Sabin knew more about the what happened in the Shepherd household than Chris knew. This is his story.

A story of pain and self hatred. Of self destructing all while trying to convince everyone around him he is fine. But Blythe knows better. She knows Sabin better than anyone and she is determined to help another Shepherd. She's determined her love will get him through it like it did for his brother. She didn't know what secrets he held, what torment he put himself through and what guilt he carried over their troubled past. All she knew was her friend was self destruction and she feared that she might not be able to save him.

And when it all comes out, it could destroy them all.

Loved this book, every single thing! The intensity, the love between all the Shepherd and Blythe, the relationships with each other. It was another amazing story and I fell in love more with Sabin!

Tortured Love, bunch of Misfits finding peace

Would you try another book from Jessica Park and/or Arielle DeLisle?

Of course! I love Jessica Park and I loved the narrator. Jessica Park knows how to write emotionally gripping tales that leaves you unhinged and gasping for breathe. Arielle DeLisle is an excellent narrator, her voice is sweet and charming.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jessica Park? Why or why not?

I would 100% try another book by Jessica Park. She writes unique stories just kind of sucks you in.

Which scene was your favorite?

I really enjoyed the singing aspects of the book, it was really unique and something different. I haven't listened to anything like that.

Do you think Restless Waters needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

YES!!!!! Sabin needs his story. Enough said.

Any additional comments?

Full book review below:

Restless Waters is the second book in the Left Drowning series. I’m going to go against the grain and say you don’t have to read the first book, Left Drowning, to understand Restless Waters. Why do you ask? Well, it’s been some time since I read the first book, but Jessica Park does such a great recap in Restless Waters, I got what was happening, but of course you don’t get the FULL feel of the book unless you read the full series.

I did the audio version of this book and I can honestly say Restless Waters was the most unique audio book I have listened to. I have listened to a few audio books that have pushed the boundaries, but this is the first one where music was incorporated into the story (for me at least).

This was not an easy book to listen to, and no, it’s not because of the narrator, the narrator was actually perfect and no, it wasn’t because of the singer and yes you read that right there was a singer, but the story was REALLY hard for me to embrace.

This is a tortured book, it’s painful and filled to the brim with angst, tension and guilt. It wouldn’t be a Jessica Park novel if it wasn’t. So this is for those that can handle that that want that, that EMBRACE that. Get my drift?

The story continues from Left Drowning and it’s mostly the story of Chris, Sabin and of course our Heroine, Blythe. I didn’t know anything about this book prior to picking it up so the beginning started kind of light, just about family and friends being with each other. Of course, nothing is as easy as it seems.
Everyone has past pains in this book. Chris and Sabin are brothers and have been abused by their father. Blythe is Chris’s girlfriend and they are madly in love with each other, but Blythe is concerned for Chris because of all the abuse he went through. Blythe and Sabin have this unique best friend / love for each other relationship that boarders unhealthy (again in my opinion) and somewhat co-dependent.

I liked Chris and Blythe’s relationship. I LOVED Chris. I love his protectiveness towards not only his girlfriend, but towards his family as well. I love that he does so much and ask for nothing in return. Sabin, I have mix feeling towards. This book is mainly about Sabin and his struggles. I could say he’s coming-to-age in away. He has all this anger towards his father, he has all these emotions against and towards Blythe that it gives me whip lash. Sabin’s feeling (platonic or not) is the main focus of the book and we don’t really UNDERSTAND him until he starts to unravel.

Blythe was also very difficult for me to get along with. Her hot and cold personality was unpleasant and her need to please Sabin made me feel sad for her. I just didn’t understand the relationship they had and that may be the reason why I missed key elements of the book.

Throughout the book we get to listen to Sabin sing and yes there is a male singer that sings. I kind of wished we had Sabin’s POV so we could listen to a male voice because I felt like the singing parts were kind of a tease. Overall, I enjoyed these parts.
I enjoyed the main narrator and I felt like she was the voice of Blythe and conveyed the main character’s emotions perfectly. She added to the story and like I said, I wished there was a male narrator.

As difficult as it was to listen to this book, it’s actually really beautiful. I respect hard books, the ones that have so much emotion, anger and problems. They had depth, feelings and so much that adds to the story. I liked how Jessica created tortured characters and kind of brought all these misfits together to find some kind of peace. The characters may not have been my favorite, but I understand the meaning and plot of the book.

Worth

This is an emotional story of struggling with the tragedies life throws at you. Its the second book so be sure to start with book one. The main couple captures your heart, and along with strong secondary characters, the story was complete. The talented narrator gave each character individuality and brought out the emotion appropriately. This is a great listen.

Because you need more Blyth & Sabin..

Any additional comments?

Jessica Park did it again! I absolutely loved Left Drowning. I fell in love with Blyth & the Shepards right from the beginning, so naturally when I found out there was a book two I had to read it. I loved that this story focused more on Blyth & Sabin's relationship because Sabin was one of my favorite characters from the first book. Jessica Park surely didn't disappoint in this story either. I highly recommend it.

Also worth noting is that I listened to this on audio & it was beautifully, amazing. There is music in it as well & it's perfect. So if you don't listen to audiobooks & are only going to listen to one this should be this one!

Heartbreaking, full of romance, love, joy & fate!

This was the perfect 2nd book in the "Left Drowning" series. "Restless Waters" answered more questions of the rocky past the Shepard siblings had and why the connections are so strong to Blythe. The ending left open the possibility of more of stories to be told!
