For fans of moody and escapist psychological thrillers such as Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley or the new Audible Original The Chateau, this is your next suspenseful listen.

Step into the hauntingly beautiful world of Resort by Oli Isaac–a fractured and surreal drama that blurs the lines between reality and illusion.

Clara, a mystery shopper scraping by in London, is a compulsive chameleon, more comfortable playing a role than she is in her own skin. A once-in-a-career opportunity to review a luxury resort pairs her with a faux fiancé—Avery—and introduces her to a rarefied world of wealth and reinvention. Amid seductive opulence and the shadows of past lies, Clara faces a chilling question: Can you ever truly escape yourself?

Starring Phia Saban (House of the Dragon), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders, Bad Sisters), and Charlotte Ritchie (You), Resort is a slow-burn, mesmerizing audio experience across twelve chapters. Directed by Julia Head with sound design by Mikhail Fiksel, the team behind Massive.

Playwright Oli Isaac was awarded a commission through the Audible Emerging Playwrights Fund, an initiative dedicated to developing innovative original plays driven by language and voice. As an Audible-commissioned playwright, they received funding and creative support to develop Resort.

I don’t know what I expected with this story, but it wasn’t this. It was told very well and kept my interest because the narrative was so compelling. Had I known the story line, I would have skipped.

Story of falling apart

I loved the main character’s voice and the added sound effects. Storyline was new and intriguing and I found the overall time of the story to be perfect.

Intriguing!

Trigger warning; there is some very messed up issues in the story, some very dark emotional, mental illness issues, by all characters to be honest with you, but if you can push through that layer, this is a brilliantly written and eloquently told story that I thinkanyone with an appreciation for a motive storytelling will love.

Dark, Twisted, Brilliant

Not a fan of this book. When the book was done it felt like so much was left unfinished. The music and background noise would drown out the narrators voices making it hard to hear what they were saying.

I didn't finish because I don't enjoy movie books with sound effects........ I'm still typing for the minimum words

I hate ebooks that are like movies

The description promises moody, escapism, mystery, and crime thriller; but, in my opinion, this story is a sad depiction of psychological disorder.

The soundtrack, especially at the end, is excellent but sounds very similar to that of the TV series Sirens. That said, it fits the scene perfectly.

A Promising Letdown

This was a long slow description of suicide. And the main character was so reprehensible that I felt no investment in her at all. I have never written a review of any book or play, but I felt compelled to do so now.

Awful and Bleak

The concept and the main character are intriguing but ultimately nothing meaningful happens and there's no growth from any of the characters. I understand that was the point of the story but it's just not an enjoyable listen. You'll like this if you enjoy predictable plots where the main character self destructs and ruin anything good that comes into their life. The voice acting is amazing, the music and sound effects really add to immersion, but the storyline was just disappointing. I'm not someone who needs a happy ending but it feels like a waste of time if nothing interesting happens.

Disappointing
