Publisher's summary

This is audiobook six of the Shandra Higheagle Native American Mystery Series

Feuds...Jealousy...Murder

Upon learning a cousin is suspected of murder, potter Shandra Higheagle travels to the Colville Reservation to support her family in any way she can, including the insight she receives from her Nez Perce grandmother in dreams. When the tribal police and FBI refuse to look for additional clues or suspects, Shandra becomes even more determined to uncover the truth.

Detective Ryan Greer knows Shandra's snooping could cause more harm than good. He joins her at the Reservation and in her pursuit for justice. However, he soon discovers his own hidden secrets could be as dangerous as century old feuds, jealousy, and the drug running that is connected to the murder.

Good mystery!

reservation, family-dynamics, law-enforcement, suspense, murder-investigation -----
Artisan Shandra had her Nez Perce heritage kept from her until her paternal grandmother died and visited her in a dream which allowed her to investigate and solve an important murder. Now another family member is involved in a murder complicated by an old feud kept current by some shady people. All is further complicated by the usual rivalry between law enforcement agencies and her own beloved who takes time off from his own police detective job to drive the five hours to the rez and support her. Excellent mystery full of twists and red herrings and suspense. Lots of interesting characters and beautiful country. Don't miss this one! The author is new to me, but I plan to get more of her books!
I won the audio in a giveaway, and the narrator did a fine job.

A murder mystery on a reservation

Reservation Revenge is a murder mystery taking place on a reservation. The author's knowledge of the setting and the culture, part real and part fictional, shows in her writing. The story is entertaining and keeps the reader (or listener) guessing. The ending feels perhaps a bit abrupt, but overall this is a good story. The reader does a decent job, though she is not my favorite.

Shandra's cousin gets accused of murder!

In Reservation Revenge by Paty Jager, Shandra Higheagle wakes up one night from a dream of her grandmother crying and soon gets a phone call from her Aunt Jo, of Shandra's Native American side of the family. Shandra's college-age cousin, Coop, has had an arrest warrant made out for him for murder. He went to a party the night before at the local lake. There Arthur Randall, a member of the family that has been feuding with the Higheagles for generations, tried to assault Coop's girlfriend, Sandy Williams, ripping her shirt open, leading to Coop's punching Arthur. The next morning, Arthur was found dead, and the police put out a warrant to arrest Coop.

Shandra hurries to her family's side and determines to get to the truth of the case. Along with her cousin, Velma, whom the locals fear but are willing to talk to, Shandra interviews each person who could know something about the situation. It all leads to more and more clues, leading Det. Ryan Greer to join his girlfriend at the reservation in Washington.

I have enjoyed this whole series since the first book came to audio, and it seems to improve with each new edition. Jager is good at the bait and switch, first making the book seem to have one solution before throwing in another. The plot has fascinating angles to it, with a great setting of the Native reservation and the challenges of life on it. We see the need for greater educational opportunities among Native Americans and also the problems of drinking, drugs, and teenage pregnancy.

The characters in Reservation Revenge draw us to them and make us want to continue our peep into their lives. We eagerly cheer for Shandra and then for her and Ryan to succeed in their romantic relationship. But we also enjoy the visit with Shandra's relatives, with whom Shandra was reunited in an earlier book. Even though she was reared to have nothing to do with her father's family, the Native American side of her heritage, Shandra discovers that this family is her true family, and she shows her loyalty to the family by doing all she can to help them in their trouble.

Ann M. Thompson performs the audio edition of this book. I like the unique tone of Thompson's voice and the voices she uses for the various characters. The accent used for Shandra is a little bit exotic sounding, with a slight lilt to it. Thompson seems ideal for this role.

I thoroughly enjoyed Reservation Revenge as much as the other books in this series. It has a clever, exciting plot and highly desirable characters that add to the appeal of the book in its total. I give the book five stars.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the author, but that had no effect on the content of my review.

Reservation Revenge

This story has many twists and turns so much so that every time I thought I had it figured out something new popped up and I had to rethink my theory.

Favorite in Series so FAr

I really enjoyed this book. I believe this is my favorite book so far in the series. Author Paty is a wonderful writer. Shandra finally accepted her “gift” and never hesitated when her family needs her help. She heads to the reservation to help clear her cousin’s name. Shandra partnered with her another cousin Velma since Velma lived on the reservation to question the people involved. I really enjoyed Shandra and Velma’s investigation, Velma has a big personality which really added to this storyline. Even though Ryan couldn’t be with Shandra, in the beginning, he checks in with her and heads to the reservation as soon as he has time off from work. Ryan and Shandra are good for one another and we finally learn what Ryan has been dealing with from his past. The mystery was great, I kept changing who I thought the murder was as the investigation continued.

I was lucky enough to hear the audio version of this book. Narrator Ann M Thompson is a gifted storyteller. She really brings the story to life. I listened to this book in two days but only because I had to “adult”, I definitely recommend this book to mystery lovers.

I was given a copy of this book in hopes I would give a review. All thoughts and opinions are that of my own and in no way been influenced.

DISAPPOINTED

after reading what the story was about I was so excited. The story line was good BUT I just couldn't finish it. The narrator was so annoying I couldn't stand it anymore. I will have to read the rest if I want to finish it which more likely won't happen because I'm too busy, hence why I get ebooks. Anyway, the author I give 5 stars the narrator, well if I could I would give negative star.
