Publisher's summary

In Rescued, David Rosenfelt again delights listeners with the charm and wit they’ve come to expect. Even the most fervent fans of the sardonic Andy Carpenter and his team will be enthralled by this latest case, where the stakes have never been higher.

Defense lawyer Andy Carpenter is reluctant to take on any more cases. He’d much rather spend his time working for his dog rescue organization, the Tara Foundation, than find himself back in a courtroom. However, when a truck carrying more than 70 dogs from the South to the rescue-friendly Northeast turns up with a murdered driver, Andy can’t help but get involved.

Of course Andy is eager to help the dogs, many of whom come to the Tara Foundation while awaiting forever homes - it’s the man accused of murder who he has a problem defending. The accused just happens to be his wife Laurie’s ex-fiance; her tall, good looking, ex-Marine ex-fiance. Even though he acknowledges having argued with the victim, he swears that he is not a killer, and though he would rather not, Andy has to admit he believes he's telling the truth.

For Andy, even with dozens of successful cases behind him, this case that his wife insists he take may prove to be his most difficult.

Rerun

Nothing new here. I may be getting tired of this series. I felt like I had heard it all before.

Still so good

I can’t think of another series that I’ve listen to to this point where the quality has stayed so high. Usually they become so formulaic or ridiculous. That is not the case with this series.

The books are always lighthearted but intelligent at the same time. The courtroom scenes and legal particulars are very interesting. Fantastic narration as always.

Ridiculous and formulaic? Yup. Epitome of Rosenfelt/Gardner

Don’t know any authors (except Evanovich) who follow such a narrow path every time out. This one is even more so, it’s Concise Carpenter. Every thing you’ve come to love in the series with the fat trimmed.
So it does lack anything special. Seemingly appra pro of nothing, Heidt (? his partner?) has a new GF, Darlene, for 2 days so Gardner gave her a speech impediment. There’s a new assistant DA, Carla, with only a minimal backstory so far. Can’t think of anything else you’d miss if you skipped this one. It’s just another dose of dog fun.

The narrator is superior in creating the perfect voice for each character.

Nothing , I have been binge watching as each book has me more devoted to the series. No complaints

Fascinating that missile weapons could be transported in using shelter dogs as cover.

I enjoyed this story as much as the others but was a little confused by the stock market manipulations. It’s not a topic I understand very well. Overall, the intrigue, suspense and wit were great.
