An Adepta Sororitas Audiobook

On a distant world, an obscure order of the Adepta Sororitas studies their founder's visions. They live in solitude… which is about to be broken as danger approaches.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Peter Fehervari brings a tale of an unusual order of the Sisters of Battle, a sister breaking her self-imposed exile, and an Astra Militarum unit seeking respite from their woes… and it's every bit as weird and wonderful as you'd hope.

THE STORY

The Adepta Sororitas of the Last Candle have stood vigil over their sanctuary world for centuries, striving to decipher their founder's tormented visions. Outsiders are unwelcome… yet still they come.

Decimated by an encounter with a lethal xenos entity, the survivors of an elite Astra Militarum company have journeyed to the Candleworld in search of healing, escorted by a woman who is no stranger there – Sister Hospitaller Asenath Hyades, who turned her back on the order decades ago.

As the seekers near the sect's bastion, malign forces begin to stir among the planet's storm-wracked spires, but the most insidious shadows lie in their own souls.

This is a refreshing, unexpected gem. Loved the style, story and narration. Did not have such great time since the old Dan Abnett works.

Awesome, refreshing 40k

Yes the book is great but it's the narrators that really shine. I wont waste time retreading points about how great a novel this is because it's an awesome mind f#@k. But the narrators take this novel to a new level, Emma Gregory's choices for character voices is excellent with each having their own range of emotions. Shogo Miyakita as the voice of the 'book" is outstanding. Peter Fehervari rolled double sixes when BL picked these two for the narration.

Great Narrators.

Almost didn’t pick this one up because of the Reddit style description Audible used but I’m glad I did. I just wish we would’ve got more of the male narrator.

Great story

This book makes the warp feel like the realm of uncaring outer gods and twisted emotion that it should be.
there's definitely some quirky ideas in here that i can see some people not liking but I loved everything and I can see why there is a cult growing around this author.

THIS IS SOME CONFIDENT WRITING.

CONFIDENT WRITER! This actually feels GrimDark at times.

If you're not comfortable with surreal moments and unreliable narrators, it may not be for you. It does a good enough job tying up loose ends, but it's more about the journey, and the journey has some excellent horror beats. If you like 40k and horror as a genre, this is worth a listen.

Evocative

The story is not for everyone, but if you like this author and she Sisters you will be not disappointed.

Tour de force of amazing narration.

Normally, Tzeentch feels pretty goofy/theatrical, the daemons in this book actually feel like servants of a god of forbidden knowledge though.

Also, Emma Gregory narrates this book and she's an excellent voice actor, almost makes it worth a listen just for the performance.

Actually compelling Tzeentch daemons

I thought this was a sisters book, and my first time reading something from the author. So I as was not expecting any of this, and I'm so satisfied. The flashback comes out of nowhere so be careful. Any warhammer fan should read this, especially if your a sister's or chaos fan.

This is a masterpiece!

This is a difficult one to explain, but it is a non-stop ride that I'm going to jump on again. A lot of elements of the 40k universe rarely get the spotlight. Breechers, Hospitalers, and a priest. There is Horror on so many levels, a bit of a noir feel, and the occasional things you also love and expect in a 40k book. And chaos here is never presented as compartmentalized as it is in every other 40k story. As though it had no godhead.
Awesome work, I've never read PF before this and I believe this is a prelude to his writings and something called the "Dark Coil" he's worked on in universe. Now I'm off to follow that thread.

Not the Chaos you're used to

Voice acting was brilliant, best of any of his novels. Think I enjoyed Firecaste more, but still very good, This is my third Peter Fehervari novel, first was Reverie, then Firecaste, now this. They all tie together, excited to see whats coming next, writer is squirrely in that its not really a trilogy or sequels but they all tie together with characters, worlds etc. Feel it building to something,

Peter Fehervari is the Steven King of Black Library
