Publisher's Summary

To escape punishment, Tera, a maiden healer sold to barbarians, must hide the truth: She has not yet come into her healing powers. Born into a much gentler world, she struggles to survive in a land of savage warlords and their cruel concubines. When ancient prophecies begin to come to pass, can the healer-slave save the realm and awaken the High Lord’s heart?

A Meandering Plotline

Biggest Complaint: The title screams bodice-ripper but it's more YA fantasy

What's good: A lot of the secondary characters are pretty good, and I like the idea of exploring other cultures. The book was good at starting off the world small and gradually growing it in scale.

What's Bad: The plot line wanders everywhere. There are points of large build, like the sub-plot about her magic/virginity mentioned in the first paragraph, which are agonized over for chapters and then fizzle out with no real climax. These weird flops happen continuously. Plots, characters, trials, are constantly thrown to the wayside. And Super powerful coincidences grow like wild flowers. I wanted to like this book, but I felt like I was tripping over everything.

Would I read this again: Probably not. It wasn't so bad to go through it once, but not enough to repeat.

This book had a lot going for it, I just wasn't completely jiving with the writing style and the romance.
