Publisher's Summary

Celebrated for their courage, vision, hospitality, and spiritual giftedness, it's no wonder women were so important to God's plan revealed in the Old and New Testaments. It wasn't their natural qualities that made these women extraordinary but the power of the one true God whom they worshipped and served.

In Twelve Extraordinary Women, you'll learn more than fascinating information about these women, you'll discover - perhaps for the first time-the unmistakable chronology of God's redemptive work in history through their lives. These women were not ancillary to His plan, they were at the very heart of it.

A must read

This book must land in your eyes if not on your book shelf. This is a great reference book about how, why and most important who is in the Bible. I would suggest this book to anyone who reads this!

Informative

Would you listen to Twelve Extraordinary Women again? Why?

Sure, to brush up on what I learned from it again.

What other book might you compare Twelve Extraordinary Women to and why?

There are other books on women in the bible and most of them didn't really stick out to me. So I can't say its just like the others but there are quite a few books on women of the bible.

Which scene was your favorite?

I won't say a scene since the book covers many people, but the book is great at going into each characters story and still focusing on the main woman even when other people in their lives are mentioned.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but since it was too long I had to break it up when I had time to listen to it.

Any additional comments?

I loved how descriptive this book was. You will get a full understanding of these women's stories in a very in depth look on their lives and the people around them.

MacArthur Pleases Again!

Would you consider the audio edition of Twelve Extraordinary Women to be better than the print version?

I think both the audio book and the print are equally good, it depends whether you're a reader or prefer to listen. I listen to audio books at night when I go to bed, but, it's definitely worth a read!

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed the depth that MacArthur went into about the women of the Bible. When I read the Bible, I normally don't sit and meditate on each passage as well as I should. After listening to this book, I was shocked at how much I didn't know these women as much as I should. It took the depth and scope that MacArthur wrote about to "awaken" me to these sisters in the Lord.

Which character – as performed by Tamara Adams – was your favorite?

I really found that after a good study of these women, I loved them all and was enlightened to wonderful nuggets of great information that I had either forgotten about when I read the Bible or that MacArthur knew from other writings.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Ladies of the Light

Any additional comments?

I would also suggest MacArthur's "Twelve Ordinary Men" It's a great compliment to this one as Dr. MacArthur writes a similar book, but obviously about men of the Bible. It's just as good :)

sound doctrine, expository teaching - educational

I wish I did the study long ago. I bought my husband twelve extraordinary men. We are now working through the PARABLES study together. I'm grateful for the teachings and books if John MacArthur, David Jeremiah, RC Spraul, Alister Begg, James MacDonald and like teachers, they seem to stand on truth instead of the wide Feel Good About ME gate that seems to attract the masses.

Misleading, disrespectful

The book was written by a man and yet is read by a woman, as if to make the perspective easier to take.

I tried to stay open, be humble, and draw as much merit out as I could, but once the book got to Mary, I found the author so disrespectful, I couldn’t go on. If you are catholic, no matter your level of love for Mary, I think it will be hard not to be offended.

Stereo instructions are an easier read (listen)

Please read this entire review and understand from the start that I am not a negative Nelly. That is important, because it won't sound like it for a bit. Here's the scoop. I have this book. I also have 2 very active children. So, realistically, I don't get to sit down and read often. So I listen to books while I'm playing chauffeur. This book is very hard to listen to. When narrating the book, every time a chapter and verse is said, it throws me off. When reading I can skip over those and go back if I want to. The way this is read is no different than someone randomly adding the word cabbage in the middle of a sentence. Unless you have your Bible in front of you, or have it memorized (I do not!) it is not helpful. Just a random, cabbage, distraction. I don't know if it, cabbage, could be done any, cabbage, differently. (Annoying right?!) But as a narrator, you read what it says. So the narrator was really given an impossible task. So purchase if you want, but I'd really suggest going and buying this one in person. Good luck!

This is a great book for both men and women

This is a very good study for women to do together. 12 Ordinary Men by the same author would be a great study for a group of men to do as well.
