Well-written thought-provoking but single-sided

My opinion about "The Kingdom of God is Within You" is that Tolstoy probably started from the position that communism outside of government control would be the most ideal and favorable structuring of society. He then took anecdotal evidences that supported his position, omitting evidences to the contrary, and coupled them with selected Biblical passages, taken out of context, to create this well-written essay to attempt to persuade readers to adopt his position, often appealing to guilt or shame that might be generated from the way he formulates his positions. This would be a good book to prompt discussion for a group of people interested in the open exchange of ideas, if such a group could still be found in our current society.

Don’t read this if you are happy with where you are

Anyone with even a decorum of exposure to the Christian faith will be challenged by what Tolstoy says in these pages. It is just as true today as when Tolstoy said it over 100 years ago.

I couldn't finish it

The topic is interesting and gives me fodder for thought but I couldn't finish because the reader was hard to listen too. I didn't mind the fast pace in which he read but he'd slur words or mispronounce words as a result of his pace and that would annoy me and cause me to miss understand the writer.

If I could find this book with a different reader I may try it again.

Resist not evil with force - that's the take away

It's very interesting to read in essay form what Tolstoy thought about core issues of his time. His thoughts on both war and religion/Christianity are extremely interesting. Much of what he says about militarisation and the need for disarmament is very pertinent today. His idea about the potential role of arbitration in international conflict is fascinating. The narrator, however, sounds like he's drunk - he slurs his words constantly.

Incredible Work, but garbled fast-pace narration

Incredible work. But due to the face-paced, halting cadence and sometimes slurring speech of the narrator I recommend listening to at .85 speed to compensate. With that adjustment this reading is much more compelling and comprehensible than the other version available on audible. Highly recommended.
