Critic reviews

"Women in an emotionally abusive marriage do not need another book on how to have a good marriage; those books rub salt in raw wounds. No, they desperately need this book so that they can diagnose just how bad their marriage is and then, with Leslie’s clear expertise, develop a plan that will either begin to turn their marriage around...or give them a wise route of escape." (Dee Brestin, author of Idol Lies and the Friendships of Women)

Hanging in by a thread ....

I really enjoyed the content of this book and it described my situation very closely—I told my Pastor I was hanging on by a thread! I have been physically separated from my husband for 13 months. I am not sure what the outcome will be at this time. I take one day at a time. Your book definitely resonated with me!

Excellent Resources and How To's

Great resource for individuals looking for validation about their abusive relationships. She gives lots of examples and ideas about how to avoid getting caught in the trap when you try to advocate for yourself. Her principles are faith based which is good, but this may cause some to not finish the book. I believe that the information is very helpful even for non believers.

Loved!

I have read so many books on relationships and marriage. This book was different. It wasnt the same old "you're christian so you gotta stay and try harder to please him..." Gave actually hope and answers.

Good resources and a good read!

Narration was wayyyy better than a lot of books I listened to. There were a few things mentioned that I tried that didn't work before reading this book. However, as stated, you only have control over yourself! I did learn so new techniques as well as clarity on setting boundaries.

Thank you

I recommend this book. I recommend it because thus far it is the most balanced and biblical piece on Christian marriages that include emotional abuse. I enjoyed that it was very distinguishing and teaching about disappointing marriages and destructive marriages. It was empowering and encouraging for sure. Thank you for writing this book.

When would God be okay with divorce?

Excellent resource for wives who feel depressed, anxious or hopeless in their marriage. What does God want us to do when everything we’ve tried doesn’t work or makes it worse? Step 1: Find a Christian counselor. Step 2: Read this book!

Every Engaged Person Should Read

Sometimes dysfunctional patterns arise, simply because we don’t have the vocabulary to be on the lookout for them.

Every person who is engaged, should read this book together and discuss boundaries that should be put in place before they even enter into the covenant of marriage. Preventative work, and appropriate vocabulary could keep a marriage from ever even becoming destructive. .

Christian View of Difficult Marriages

There are some really helpful books available on this subject ( and even quite good ones). However, Vernick gives a Christian perspective which is sorely needed in this area. I couldn't stop listening and I will go back and listen again.

I especially appreciated Vernick reading her own work. She has a lovely voice for narration and it added a lot a credibility to the material being presented.
