Publisher's summary

This is the full, uninterrupted audiobook of the 14 books of the Apocrypha - listen with the passion this masterpiece deserves by number one best-selling voice talent Steve Cook.

The word “Apocrypha” originates from the Greek word apókruphos, which means “hidden”, referencing to its selective state in different renditions of books - consequently, many have sought to discover why this is so.

For many, this relates to a sense of the forbidden has swirled around these books, even though the Apocrypha was included in the Old Testament of the ancient historic churches. Others feel that it plays against their personal beliefs as well as the beliefs of others.

The books called the Apocrypha were written during the third to the first centuries B.C. They would get their origins from such diverse places such as Alexandria (Egypt), Antioch (Syria), and Israel. Some of these books were written in Greek, which was the common language throughout the Mediterranean during those times and continuing into the time of the New Testament. Many of these works were originally written in Aramaic and Hebrew before they would be translated into Greek.

The Apocrypha has been part of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Coptic, and other ancient churches which have a history tracing back to apostolic times, but have not been recognized by Orthodox Jews or Protestant Christians as scriptures inspired by God and therefore non-canonical. These books have been published in many historic bibles.

Accredited seminaries throughout the world require their students read this great piece of theological history. Listen and be inspired by these stories that bring clarity during an interesting “intertestmental” (between the Old and New Testaments) period.

For Bible Readers

I have contemplated reading these books for years and made the leap of faith to listen to this via Audible...and I can say that these "lost books" do not misinterpret any story you here from people regarding them.

These compliment the Old Testament stories that you read about and this man brings these stories to life with his amazing voice casting!

I highly recommend this for listening!!!

An amazing audiobook!

What made the experience of listening to The Apocrypha the most enjoyable?

The way Mr. Cook brought this story alive. I have been waiting for this book to come out on audio since I listened to his rendition of "The Book of Enoch". Mr. Cook does a fantastic job retelling this story and that it is currently the only version Audible makes it a must have. I am so glad that I was able to get it when it first came out. I just can't wait for the next set of audiobooks to hit Audible!

Overly Dramatized

I would prefer a non-dramatized version. This one has too much emotion and fake crying. Let the text stand on its own.

Indispensible

Hard to find the full 73 book Bible on Audible. This book plus the NABRE New Testament and another Bible to get the Old Testament allows me to continue a 20 year practice of reading the Whole Bible once a year.

It Didn't contain the more Popular and rare books.

The books it contained were spot on and extremely well narrated by Steven cook But the book was devoid of the classic Apocphreal texts that stir our imagination, Such as the books of Enoch, The book of Jasher, The lost books of Adam and Eve, The infancy of Jesus, The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, The Gospel of Thomas, The Gospel of Phillip, The Apocalypse of Abraham, The Apocalypse of Moses, The Apocalypse of Peter, The Son's of Light vs The Son's of Darkness and so on and so on, but it started out well with The books of Ezra, The book of Tobit, The book of Baruch, The Wisdom of Solomon, The book of Judith, Bel and The Dragon, But towards the end The book of Maccabees almost out me to a slumber, but all in all Most of the books were very enlightening and very well narrated it was just towards the end that I found it hard to listen to with the last of the books being the least interesting in my opinion and the longest which didn't sit well with me but still a job well done and especially in regards to the narration.

The narrator and editor... not good.

They changed certain words, and the narrator could have done better. The editor shouldn't have changed any of the words. Let "Thee" be there's no need to change it to "you"...

Loved it!!!!!

Don't understand why many say it's not scripture, I completely disagree. I've learned more and got the understanding bridging the old testament and new testament together. I recommend this to all believers.

Good resource - acted reading

I don’t enjoy the dramatized reading style in general but this one is bearable. It’s no max maclean but it’s decent. The content, is good and the intro gives some context.
