Publisher's Summary

Wise yet worldly, spiritual yet practical, the Tao Te Ching is beloved by seekers all the world over. This new edition features a lucid, poetic translation that makes the Tao Te Ching accessible to contemporary listeners.

The Tao Te Ching is a series of meditations on the mysterious nature of the Tao - the way, the guiding light, the very source of all existence. According to Lao Tzu (a name meaning "the old master"), the Tao is found where we would least expect it - not in the strong but in the weak; not in speech but in silence; not in doing but in "not-doing".

Worth Listening Again and Again

This is a beautiful translation of the Tao Te Ching that is beautifully read by someone who has an understanding of what she is reading. I have listened to several translations with different readers. I have also read the Tao in many forms. This one is outstanding and I will relisten frequently.

Inferior translation, but superb reading.

The transition is more Westernized but the reader is more true to the intent of the text.

A way of life

Old, but timeless. The book we should be teaching our kids early at school. Short, but deep. Listen in a few hours, then reflect for a lifetime.

Concise and dense

Straight to the point, very dense and requires attention and curiosity. I'd get a physical copy too.

Sound is not clear.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed reading this, and thought it would be nice to listen to while walking or working in the kitchen. It is just barely possible to understand on the IPad speaker at low volume. Not possible to understand at all on Bose speaker at room volume. I haven’t tried it with blue tooth earphones and iPhone but I have other things to listen to while walking.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amanda Brewer’s performances?

No, probably not.

Was Tao Te Ching worth the listening time?

Would be with good sound quality.

great book! must read..

I loved this. I wish I read it years ago. Basically common sense teachings about how to live life in the best way. I think it should be taught in schools. If everyone lived by this book then the world would be a better place.
