Publisher's summary

Many Christians have unknowingly embraced a lie - the idea that "church" is a once-a-week event rather than a community of Spirit-empowered people; that "ministry" is something pastors do on Sunday morning rather than the 24/7 calling of all true believers; and that "discipleship" is a program rather than the normal state of every follower of Jesus. Drawing on his experience as a pastor and church planter, Jeff Vanderstelt wants us to see that there's more - much more - to the normal Christian life than merely sitting in a pew and listening to a sermon once a week. Rather, God has called his people to something bigger: a view of the Christian life that encompasses the ordinary, the extraordinary, and everything in between.

Insightful

This book provided great insight to complement the saturate workbook that my missional Community is working through. It helps us focus on our day-to-day life and how God is calling us to his kingdom work.

Over the top

Breathless reading. Just a turn off. The tone of his voice just comes across as fake acting. The general message is not bad. Sure Jesus above all. But the presentation is a serious distraction. A high school narration

Listen to God Calling

We in the United States have developed an event-driven version of Jesus that is better described as God light. We’ve figured out a way to continue as the rich young ruler or son waiting to bury a father and be ok with also claiming to follow Jesus. Saturate is the 21st century rediscovering what it means to practically die to yourself, take up your cross, and fully follow Jesus. It is the journey of how our lives are to be saturated in the Gospel. I know God is calling a multitude back to real faith in motion - he’s been calling me for years. This book is a vision of what our lives can be, fully saturated in God’s plan for His creation. Take it. Eat it. Celebrate it. Glorify the God who inspired it.

Biblically Based Encouragement Toward Discipleship

Well written reminder that Christians are to live a Christ centered life in prayer and worship and to purposefully share the gospel through proper Christian relationships and real expressions of love for others while mentoring, supporting and accepting support from those around you all with an eye toward spreading the Good News and making disciples who can make other disciples. Very good book with inspiring real life examples. I keep telling my wife, the Church (believers) needs to change. Most congregations seem ineffective to me. Of course, I'm not very effective either, but that is the purpose of a book like this; wake up the individuals in the Church to effect real substantive change that impacts people's lives in a way that is clearly different than the rest of the World and brings healing, understanding and hopefully, ultimately redemption through faith in Jesus. Listen up followers of Jesus. What does He say you should be doing that you are not doing? Read the Word, pray on it and I would even recommend reading this book while you listen for answers from our loving Creator.

Decent book. A few great points to glean.

I struggled to finish this book. As a minister I found this book very watered down, it's pretty obvious this is for pastors or church leaders, I just wish the author was more bold to make it strong meat for said pastors and leaders. The content of this book felt it was targeted to someone who has no experience discipling or witnessing, and who needs the basics taught to them about what steps to take.
I finished the book. And I'm glad I did, I'm inspired to start becoming more involved with the day to day lives of the people I want to witness to, especially in regards to just inviting them over for dinner often. That's one of the better things to glean from this book. The emphasis on hospitality is clearly demonstrated. And the author is right in his views of the definite lack of hospitality shown by the church, especially when we should be above par to the standard of "normal people".
Worth reading? yes.
Would I recommend it to every minister I know? Only if they were seeking content on everything that has to do with discipling. But not just because.

One Word: Amazing!

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Not just Christian books but all genres. The way the author saturates the book with the love of and for Jesus will take you to new heights to glorify God. It’s also very practical. I can easily see this being a source for all types of discipleship not just for information but transformation in Christ.
