Publisher's summary

"If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses?" Jeremiah 12:5

We all long to live life at its best-to fuse freedom and spontaneity with purpose and meaning. Why then do we often find our lives so humdrum, so unadventuresome, so routine? Or else so frantic, so full of activity, but still devoid of fulfillment? How do we learn to risk, to trust, to pursue wholeness and excellence-to run with the horses in the jungle of life?

In a series of profound reflections on the life of Jeremiah the prophet, Eugene Peterson explores the heart of what it means to be fully and genuinely human. His writing is filled with humor and self-reflection, insight and wisdom, helping to set a course for others in the quest for life at its best.

A book about what life should be like . A real treasure

Eugene Peterson is an exceptional writer but most importantly is a wonderful man after God's heart. Run with the Horses helps makes sense of the muddled world we live in by using the life of Jeremiah as inspiration. It has left me motivated to pursue God the way Jeremiah did and to find security in Him alone. Every chapter is rich and full of wisdom to contemplate. I'm so glad I bought this - I find it best to have the printed copy as well so that I can go back to specific parts to underline and re-read.

WOW!! Did I Ever Learn Jeremiah's Faithfulness To God

Many a Christian man nor woman has the spiritual intestinal fortitude for being as hated and despised as Jeremiah because he lived a life of faith and trusted in the will of his God for his life.

At the end of this book, Jeremiah could have retired living a life of faith in practice by accepting the prestigious position that the Babylonian leaders offered him, but he passed it up to continue living the life of faith in Jesus Christ.

There were no areas in the reading of this book,
"Run with the Horses" that I found unpractical in biblical application to the believers life.

I rated this book with 5 stars in all three areas, Overall, Performance and Story because it flowed well with the Scriptures and the continued mention of faith in practice rather than faith in word only.

I recommend this book, "Run with the Horses" to all those Christians, who have surrendered their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ for Him to have His way in their lives, no matter the inconvenience or hardship.

Excellent. Encourages to live with deeper humanity

Love this book! Just finished it for a second time. This book inspires me to live with a deeper trust in God, to seek out a deeper connection and daily dependence on God, and to set my expectation for life to be hard and painstaking in reality. It lets me know that that is okay and just because happy endings don't always happen, it doesn't mean that I can't trust God or endure with him but rather the opposite. Because things are hard, I need to be deeply connected to the one source that is sovereign over it all and seeing beyond it all: God. That is the only way I can thrive!

The ability to do more

I recently started running (in January). One of the things I decided to do was to only listen to a certain book during these times (increasing motivation, right?). This was the book I started with and I absolutely loved being inside the story and mind of Jeremiah the prophet. I have always grown up hearing that he was a failure and it was so refreshing to hear how many amazing things God did through him and revealed to him in the midst of a turbulent time in Israel. Eugene Peterson has a way of taking you right into the story. 👏

Must listen to this book again

Peterson tells the story of the frustration of Jeremiah the prophet who tried to teach people like me to obey the words of wisdom from God.

I can see why this is one of Bono's favorite books

If you are striving to live a life of faith this book will both challenge and encourage you. The author does a brilliant job of tying together the life of Jeremiah from 2500 years ago into our modern day lives.

I listened to this audible during my workouts. I enjoyed it so much and was sad when it ended. Speaks to life today so perfectly. I loved seeing Jeremiah from a deeper perspective. I’m inspired.

Heart-provoking

This book made me teasers reassess my own walk. You have to decide whether you want to live out " fluffy Christianity" or the Christianity on Jesus's terms. Humbling.
