Not most entertaining

The book can be very boring for those who are not doing theology or church history, for academic purpose, however, the book is still worth collecting and listening to.

Perfect book, perfect performance

What did you love best about On Christian Doctrine?

My favorite thing about the book was the story and the performance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of On Christian Doctrine?

Saint Augustine had exquisite insight into scripture and it shows in the guidance he shares for fruitful Christian living throughout the text. This book should be mandatory reading for all seeking to live a Christian life.

Translation? Translator? Book Deets!

Dear Audible, Augustine wrote in Latin. Translations abound. Product Details matter. Bibliographies matter. (Especially with the Classics.) *Please* provide information about the actual book.

Yes, Augustine wrote it but *which edition* is this recording from? Translator? Publisher? Editor? Abridged, Unabridged? A website for a media company doesn't qualify as a Product Detail(s). It details nothing except how much Audible sucks.

I wish I had time to scour the library, pull all translations of Augustine, compare the text with this audiobook and determine which one it is. (Again, Bibliographies matter.)

FWIW, the translation sounds very accessible for listeners of leisure. Any book read by Simon Vance is lovely. Scholars and Students, be advised the translation may not be one for academic purposes. Love to all you classics nerds! *gidgie

Required Reading/Listening

Like everything by Augustine, this text is sublime. It contains the seeds of modern semiotics, just for starters. Augustine is a genius, and everyone should read everything he wrote, because it’s seminal to Western civilization. I listened to this in the Audible recording, and the performance is excellent. Highly recommended.
