Publisher's summary

The tradition of Tantra, or Tantric Buddhism, has existed in India from as early as the 5th century. The message of Tantra endorses Osho's perspective: that only through total acceptance of ourselves can we grow. In Osho's understanding, Tantra is one of the greatest of man's visions, a religion that respects rather than destroys individuality, and is an extraordinary method of expanding inner consciousness. These remarkable discourses are original, live recordings made during Osho's extemporaneous daily talks to audiences of disciples and visitors at his meditation retreat in Poona, India. His talks were, and continue to be, central to his work as a mystic trying to find ways to share his experience. And as you listen to this great teacher, you too will enter a state of meditative awareness that will bring you to a new understanding of this direct and visionary approach toward God, toward reality, toward that which is.

Osho is an enlightened mystic whose spontaneous talks to disciples and friends have been transcribed and published in more than 650 books in 35 languages worldwide.

Not what i expected

The man was funny, the audio held my attention, but it really only had about 15 minutes worth of tantric sexual information.

Transforming hell into heaven

A beautiful introduction to Buddhist Tantra based on the Tilopa’s sutras (The father of the Tibetan-Buddhism lineage (Tilopa -> Naropa->Marpa -> Milarepa).

As always, Osho's speaking is beyond words.

Rambly, heady stuff...

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Osho is pretty rambly on those live recordings. He likes to throw lots of factoids at his devotees. It's all from the head. Very disapointing overall. However, I did participate years ago in a few worshops in Vancouver with someone who lived with a Osho for a while. This Vancouver teacher was a great teacher and I really trust his opinion to this day. He did mention that Osho was the real deal and I believe Osho it despite of those tapes.

He had lots of great body-release breathing techniques, etc. But nothing is new in those live tapes. All that being said, I was very surprised by a 'newer' teacher: Adyashanti. Don't get fooled by the fact he is a California dude and has no beard. Adya is clearly a great teacher, a real good one. Lots of insights in the audiobook I got. He is a bit more à la Krishnamurti... but he offers a clearer path than 'K' and he is less critical of society's structures, etc. Than 'K'. Best,

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Osho?

You can't have an actor replace a spiritual master, unless you really need to. I am not bothered that much by Osho's East Indian accent. His vocabulary is good and he is a very-well read fellow.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I am sorry, not much in my opinion. Both Osho purchases fall in the waste of cash category... though I still respect him. Osho's real edge was more the vast array of techniques from different traditions he put together. His 'two cents' on the tantra is not something of much value in my opinion. Keep your dough from some better stuff.
