Publisher's Summary

In this compelling work, authors Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola reclaim the entire Bible as a gripping narrative about Jesus Christ.

Virtually every other “Jesus biography” begins with the nativity account in Bethlehem. In this groundbreaking book, Sweet and Viola begin before time, in the Triune God, and tell the complete interconnected story of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation.

Jesus: A Theography is the first book ever written to combine historical Jesus studies with biblical theology, crafting together one breathtaking saga that tells the Jesus story in both Old and New Testaments. This flagship book demonstrates clearly that every bit of Scripture is part of the same stunning drama, what the authors refer to as the theography of Jesus Christ.

One thing that annoyed me:

It is so good, you have to listen to it twice.

Here is why. I hesitate to mention this, as it may dissuade someone from buying this audio book. But this is all about being honest right?

I love this book, I love the authors. I have been begging for someone to clearly explain what they explain in this book. My beloved authors did it, and did it jointly. The narrator seems to have an amazing list of credits in his audible library. (Do you hear my "but" developing).

This Narrator has an occasional flat tone to his voice that drives me nuts. Yes he is a new voice for Leonard and Frank. Yes I do miss the other guys. Yes I may have been undermined by a slow-to-yield bias. But that flat tone comes off as insincere to me and robs those sentences of their amazing points. It also feels like he falls into a consistent pattern of inflection (that includes the flat ton) that doesn't add to the value of the text. (I just heard the flat tone in the Lord of the Rings, where the narrator was skillfully reading the words of Saruman (a bad guy). There it was intended for you to mistrust what was being said.).

I live on audible daily. I listen between 1 to 10 hours a day. I love the spoken word in both fiction and non fiction. I have deeply enjoyed Frank Viola's works and his style of writing. Leonard Sweet is amazing with the infectious energy he infuses in his writing. My opinion is that this Narrator isn't as effective in relaying the wonderful truths expressed in this book as he could have been.

Edit - The second time listening to the book was much more rewarding. The points came through and really began to resonate with me. The narrator was less annoying to my over-sensitive pallet.

I truly hope many people enjoy the wonderful perspective this book brings to the Bible. I hope all who buy it don't suffer from the sensitivity I suffered from. But if you do, don't give up. It is worth it.

Loved it, especially the emphasis on what we allow Jesus to do through us. Get to know him.

Jesus

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is searching for Jesus using the old and New Testament and wants to know Jesus better.

I love the way this book points out that Jesus did not merely come into existence at the nativity scene but was always a part of the Godhead.

God gave humanity dominion over all the earth and creation for their care.
Humanity however changed elegance from God to His enemy thereby forfeiting our God given rights to the enemy.

Jesus left His Devine prerogatives behind and came to earth in the form of His own creation made in His likeness and took on the same limitations and fought the enemy as a man resisting the temptation to draw from His Devine powers and took back what belongs to God.

A whole new look at Christ and scripture.

This book has a lot of depth without being to scholarly. Tom Parks does a great job reading. We are using the printed book in a study and using Mr. Parks as our reader while we study.
