Publisher's summary

Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale defend the absolute claims of Christ against modern belief in the "secular gods" of atheism, scientism, relativism, and more.

The rise of these secular gods presents the most serious challenge to the absolute claims of Christ since the founding of Christianity itself. The Christian worldview has not only been devalued and dismissed by modern culture, but its believers are openly ridiculed as irrelevant. In Jesus Among Secular Gods, Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale challenge the popular "isms" of the day, skillfully pointing out the fallacies in their claims and presenting compelling evidence for revealed absolute truth as found in Jesus. This audiobook is fresh, insightful, and important, and faces head on today's most urgent challenges to Christian faith. It will help seekers to explore the claims of Christ and will provide Christians with the knowledge to articulate why they believe that Jesus stands tall above all other gods.

Not Quite What I Expected

Most of this book I have heard before, but what was I to expect? There are only so many ways to tell the same truth. The arguments for and against Christianity are all the same. There is nothing new there, and I suppose there never will be. The atheist will always claim there is no God and base his argument on improper science, while the Christian will show the science as improper but more so how the lack of God would leave the world in chaos. For my part there is no question, the only God that has ever brought happiness and peace in any lasting sense is the Christian God. Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale did put some of their personal stories into the book, but I guess I was expecting more. The book did address some of the counter cultural topics and while I was expecting an epic battle between cultures, I found that the only differences seem to lie in the narcissistic view that athieism brings as compared to the service centered view that Christianity brings. The ironic part is that while the differences between the atheistic and Christian cultures are so minor, the world's they create are as different as Robert E. Howard's Hyboria and C.S. Lewis' Narnia. Both are filled with wonder and magic, but only one has hope and peace through even the darkest of times. A perfect example of an atheistic world and a Christian World. Only through Christ Jesus can peace truly last, and when you accept it, even in the coldest winters you will have peace.

Terrific Book that illumines the Love of God .

This book reveals the greatness of God's love and the distinct difference of the Christian belief. Is truth dead? No not at all. He is risen and most assuredly alive.

TRUTH

It's pretty heavy material, yet very inspirational. I will be listening to it more to gain a more complete understanding.

Different reader would've been nice

Excellent book, reader was way over the top dramatic, had to listen at 1.75x speed to get through it.

Horrible voice over artist

The voice over artist sounds very sarcastic and fake. It's hard to focus on the narratation itself.

Impactful-presented in a scholarly way

I really enjoyed the book. At times it makes it a little difficult to stay focused because it is presented as educational arguments for the faith. They are clearly presented and I enjoyed listening to their positions. It's great to memorize some points and share what we learned with others who are questioning.

I will be reading this one again. I find the stories that are used to paint the pictures of their arguments very interesting and unforgettable..

Not easy to listen to.

This book may be good to read but I found it hard to listen to. It’s complicated and if I were reading it I may go slower and back up once in a while. Also, just my personal preference, but the voice of the reviewer was hard for me to listen to. Try a sample first or consider buying the book as I am sure there is some good information in it.

Narration was distracting to me

I love all of Ravi and his teams work, which is why I was excited to listen to another one. When I noticed that it was not narrated by the authors I was a bit apprehensive.

For those of us that are auditory learners, it's become more critical to have well read books by natural sounding story tellers. In that regard, I'm giving the book a lower score for Performance.

Honestly, I feel nitpicky bringing it up, but to me, the narrator was tough to listen to. At least 40 to 50% of the time, it felt performed. The phrase that I keep hearing over and over again in my head is... "In Fact". I believe Ravi says it quite a bit as a transition to expound upon a point, but the way the Narrator said it, really drew my attention to feeling like it was being Over Performed.

I know both Ravi and Vince are extremely busy, but I think it would have been better to have them dryly read their sections out loud and recorded then to have this narrator.
