Publisher's summary

Being close to God means communicating with Him-telling Him what is on our hearts in prayer and hearing and understanding what he is saying to us. It is this second half of our conversation with God that is so important but that also can be so difficult. How do we hear his voice? How can we be sure that what we think we hear is not our own subconscious? What role does the Bible play? What if what God says to us is not clear?

The key, says best-selling author Dallas Willard, is to focus not so much on individual actions and decisions as on building our personal relationship with our creator. In this updated classic, originally published as In Search of Guidance, the author provides a rich, spiritual insight into how we can hear God's voice clearly and develop an intimate partnership with Him in the work of His kingdom.

Good book! Very helpful

The content is outstanding.
The recording was lacking. It seemed to have a strong echo throughout the whole reading. If that could be removed the audio version would be a home run.

Mind opening

To someone who's grown up in church, this book was mind opening. The author points out how God still speaks to us today. He dismantles some common traditions found in the church. He urges us to have a friendship with God.

The book is very dense. The beginning flows better than the ending. This is not a fault, of course. I attacked the beginning with enthusiasm. As the book wore on The information became dense, and I had to pause and reflect. This is what I mean by dense.

I recommend this book to anyone who is spiritual, interested in spiritual things, or philosophical. I'd also argue that anyone who is a Christian and wants to hear from God should give this book a listen.

One of the Most Important Books on Spirituality Period

Do yourself a favor and read. The narrator leaves much to be desired, but focus on the book.

Changed my views!

Dallas Willard not only deals with how the Bible says we should thinking about hearing God but he also helps us think deeply about the reasons we get it wrong. So often our views on this subject are based on misunderstandings and abuses and not the scripture or reality. Thank you Dallas

I highly recommend this book.

Chapter breaks

Excellent book! But the way its chapters are broken up in the audio version is frustrating. Why lump the introduction, chapter 1 and 2 together in one audio? It makes it difficult to go back and listen to specific part os the book. Also I do not see a reason for this, since Audible continues playing the audio files in succession. Please correct this.
