ESSENTIAL READING

I cannot recommend this book highly enough, ESPECIALLY given the current, anti-Christian and hyper political environment. Written some 40 years ago, it is more relevant today than ever.

good educational read/ listen. Will listen again to better digest all of the content. Francis Shaeffer was awake and aware of what was and still is at stake in our country.

Witness how the Christian community yielded the argument in the last 50 years. to the materialist Humanists.

An insightful book

The whole book rest on the premise that : the right to freedom of religion is guarranteed for the Christian. although the Author claims not to be advocating for a theocracy, indeed he is very close to it. the concepts of enduring and persevering under a tyranny are to be avoided and are viewed as those things to be resist . in his view Christ should be the only one who should wear a crown of thorns and carry a cross. nevertheless there are several valid and helpful points in the consideration of how we must react to tyranny. read with caution!

Every Christian needs to read this book!

Although this book was written in the 1980s, it is even more poignant and relevant in 2020. Francis Schaeffer sent out a warning to us almost 40 years ago and we have not heeded his warning. Is it too late? I don’t know the answer to this. However, I do know that we, as Christians, need to understand our American history better, and specifically, it’s foundations in Judeo Christian worldview. The first step is to read this book!

The world is messy. I don't understand why these ideas are not discussed with young Christian adults.

Thankful for this book

Loved it. Will listen again, perhaps annually. Prescient, given the America we now live in. Civil disobedience must be an option, otherwise the government has become a god, he observed.

If only we had …

… heeded this warning when it was writtwn almost 40 years ago! But, now we are living with the consequences of believing that government is God just because a majority of fools looking for free stuff say it is. Francis Schaeffer would have been saddened, but hardly surprised by what is happening now and WILL very likely get worse in the near future.

Look at America & the West now. How far we’ve fallen since even this piece was written. I’m so thankful to have found his works. But he speaks of the necessity of freedom of religion yet doesn’t show how a government with a Christian foundation would deal with that. What to do when the Satanic Temple is allowed to do the invocation prayer before a city council meeting? Or would he have a problem with that? Religion with child sacrifice? We need real tools to put the theory of Truth Love & Compassion into action. I wish Francis S was still around so I could ask him.

Fantastic book, and very relevant to our times. Very readable book too. Strongly recommend purchasing this (I bought the audible version and it was great).
