Publisher's summary

Christ as seen in the Offerings is a classic work by RF Kingcote which takes up in a simple way some of the offerings mentioned in Leviticus - a book which is commonly passed over as if it were not relevant to us today, but which is full of rich typical teaching. The author expounds very clearly the meaning of the offerings which are brought before us, which are types or pictures given by the Holy Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ's Person and work and of what results to us through that work which has much relevance to us today. As the author explains; "The burnt offering, the meat offering, the peace offering and the sin offering are brought before us by the Holy Spirit in order to make clear to our minds four different aspects of the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, just as in the New Testament the Holy Spirit has given us, in the four Gospels, four different views of the Lord's Person, and also the blessings which have become ours through what He has done."

Illustrating various truths of the gospel, the author helps us to understand the sweet savor offerings and the sin offerings and encourages us to appreciate more deeply the magnitude, the meaning, and the gloriousness of the Lord Jesus Christ's sinless life and finished work.

Balanced, Analytical, Not Overly Speculative

This audiobook seeks to bring to light the ways in which the several meticulously described Levitical sacrifices foreshadow the office and character of Christ. For the most part the author achieved this goal, while balancing bringing out the symbolism of the individual sacrifices while maintaining plausibility and not going too far in reading meaning into the text.

Great study of the Offerings

I was thrilled to find the Brethren Writer's Library series on audible. The narrator is top notch and professional. I was looking for teaching on the Offerings in Leviticus. This book was a great resource. Kingscote suggests 4 offerings plus the offering of the red Heifer in Numbers.

The burnt offering-- this section covers why Christ came to earth which is to do the will of the Father. In obedience he went all the way to the cross. Also the offerer was accepted based on the acceptance of the offering not based on his own perfection. This offering burned all night and was never supposed to go out.

The grain offering speaks to us of Christ's life on earth. There were no lumps or coarseness in the fine flour and absolutely no leaven or sin. You poured oil on it speaking of Christ's anointing with the Holy Spirit.

The Peace Offering speaks of the saints' communion with God and our communion with other believers. You offer it for thanksgiving and praise. This section speaks some of breaking of bread and the communion found there and why we should find our delight in the Breaking of Bread service. Thanksgiving and praise should flow out of us at this meeting.

Sin and Trespass offering is dealt together in this book. Kingscote says they are different in detail but the same in nature. This offering typifies the Lord giving himself and identifying with our sin. In this section Kingscote talks about restoring communion with God. What does God mean with confession of sin? He talks about assurance of salvation.

The sacrifice of the Red Heifer in Numbers 19. The red Heifer was burned outside the camp as with Christ. This was the fire of judgment on all our sin. The believer's sins are gone forever. How long does the sacrifice last? Through all eternity. Does this give the believer license to sin? No it is a power to keep us from sin because of our love for the Savior. What happens when a believer sins? All the Trinity is engaged when we sin. The Holy Spirit convicts our hearts, Christ is our advocate, the Father forgives.
