Publisher's summary

A Body of Divinity, considered a classic among 17th-century Puritan works, contains a series of sermons on the Westminster Catechism, a central catechism in English-speaking Calvinist churches. Watson details several of the questions and answers from the Catechism:

  • What is the chief end of man?
  • Did all mankind fall in Adam's first transgression?
  • How does Christ execute the office of a priest?

In covering these topics, Watson touches on a large portion of the basics of orthodox Christian theology.

Great book and well read

This is a great book. For an old Puritan, it is easy to consume in audiobook form. Yet, I actually got the kindle book for a dollar and followed along.

Lovely sermons on Westminster

Watson's analogical use of Scripture for illustration is amazing. Highly recommended introduced to Reformed Theology.

One of the greatest theology books ever written.

I am astonished by this book. I do t know anyone who can so clearly state what Biblical Christianity is than Thomas Watson. I want to start it over again just because of its depth.

Great

It was very helpful. I can’t agree 100% with every last thought. There are bones within meat, but I recommend highly the wisdom found in this book.

Great theological overview of Christianity

Other than the very odd pronunciation by the reader of some people, places, theological terms, and the oft repeated references to "Psalms..." and "Revelations.." when referencing the biblical text, it was a very good book and easy to listen to. I highly recommend this book. I would say that it is an excellent condensed overview of Christian Theology with an obvious emphasis on Theology Proper. There are several other parallel resources, each having their own unique emphasis and range of discussion. I would compare this work to that of Stephen Charnock, A.W. Pink, J.I. Packer, and Stephen Lawson.

Wonderful exposition

This is one of the great expositions of scripture that challenges the reader/listener to heighten their view of the triune God of the Bible, and of His infallible Holy Scriptures which bear witness.

Awesome work, questionable choice of reader

Great work of Watson’s, very edifying, and representative sample of English Puritan divinity. The reader has a good reading voice and cadence, however, I do not think he is intimately familiar with the Bible or the Christian religion. For instance, he always refers to the book of Revelation as “Revelations,” and he refers to the famous church historian Eusebius as “Yoos-uh-buy-uss.” Perhaps another reader, familiar with the subject matter in this work of non fiction, would have been a better choice. Nevertheless, worth the purchase and a close listen.
