Publisher's summary

"Do not believe in that which is not there, do not believe in that which is not there, do not believe..."

From the ashes of destruction, the Elite rose up as the ruling powers of the New World, enforcing new laws.

Those laws are broken at great peril.

Sinna witnesses her best friend taken by force in the night, and knows Jacob is destined for a fate worse than death.

She's heard the rumors, the whispers of what happens in Rehabilitation. She's seen the dead looks in the eyes of those who return. If they return.

But she can't ignore what she's seen, no matter the danger. How can she abandon Jacob to such a fate? She must try to save him, no matter the cost.

Even if the cost is her life.

This is a young adult dystopia trilogy set in a post-apocalyptic world with hints of romance and a God theme.

Short, Cliffhanger, Solid 5★ if not for Narration

Alright peeps, fair warning… this is a quick read! Plus, it stops bam right in the middle of a scene. Be prepared to have the next book ready to listen to right away.

Good storyline. :-) I keep thinking 🤔 it reminds me of a movie (which I loved) but can't come up with a title. So, that's a great compliment. 😀

It was hard to connect with the characters as of yet with it's short length. Interestingly, Miriam intrigued me the most. 😊

I hate cold & snow. I hated her walking through it! It was cool imagining the buildings of her time. I want to throw in my ending thoughts. I was excited and angry at the same time!! 😱😡 We hit the climax and a revelation then BOOM the end! Veerrryyy happy I already have book 2 downloaded.

Alright, in regards to the narration & the narrator. Her voice was the only good thing. I had to specifically download an equalizer to bring down what must be a reverberation or overly high bass wherever she's recording. She, also, had variegated volumes and at one time it sounded as if she was in a cell.

Solid 5 star if not for the narrator/narration. 🙁

My star ratings include these 5 elements:
1★ story line
1★ engaging characters
1★ use of world building/descriptive
1★ being well edited or narrated
1★ the ending

Wish it was longer

I didn't realize what a short book it was when I got it. I liked the book, but far too short for me. Also I was having trouble with the audio randomly going from normal volume to very quiet, and back. Not sure if it was the fault of the recording or my iPhone though... But other than those two things I enjoyed it!

Elite New World!

A disturbing peek into a possible future.
A nuclear war has devastated the planet and billions of people and animals are dead. The remaining people are hungry and the land is barren. Shacks are heated by fireplace and cooled by open windows/doors. Before the war is known as the Old World. This is the New World; a time of suspicion, neighbors spying on each other to survive and little joy. It's ruled by the Elite and their Laws, with no court and no individual rights. The main Laws decree: "Don't Repeat Mistakes of the Old World, Don't Seek Love...And Above All Else, Don't Believe!!' There is no place for God!! Penalties for breaking these laws are severe.
Sinna and Jacob, teens born into this world, know nothing of the Old World except that retold by their elders.
The story revolves around the Laws, how they affect Sinna, Jacob and his sister, Sammy.
Ms. Stone has created a New World of believable characters, dialog, background information and plot. The ending may be unexpected. An impressive read from a new dystopian/sci-fi author. The first of a series that is a cliffhanger, which I don't usually appreciate, but this time I'm looking forward to the next book!
