Publisher's summary

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that while a man in possession of a fortune may be in want of a wife, there may be ladies who do not reciprocate. This may be especially so when the man in question not only possesses the rightful inheritance of said ladies, but is also of a most odious disposition and less than agreeable in appearance. Such was the lot of five young women near the town of Meryton. Not only had they no fortune, their own father, an absentee parent at best, had not the foresight to put aside a single pound should they not have the opportunity marry. For this sole reason, their overbearing mother deemed it necessary for one of her daughters to marry this impossible man. However, a mother’s best laid plans cannot come to pass if the gentleman in question is not only repulsive, but also very, very dead. Desperate times often call for desperate measures. There is a myriad of ways to dispose of an unwanted suitor, all of which may be deemed accidental, for who would ever accuse a young lady of good family? The answer is simple… no one. However, some persons are as extremely difficult to be rid as they are to tolerate in life. The Reverend Mr. Collins, despite his obvious deficiencies when it came to appearance and personality, has an uncanny knack for staying alive but, where there is a will, there is always a way…

Good story

This was a funny story. Some witchcraft as well. So many people wanting to finish off mr Collins was laughable. Witty indeed. Great Jaff

Mr Collins has very bad luck.

This story is to be taken with humor. Don’t go into it thinking it’s a normal retelling with changes, although it begins with Mr Collins visiting looking for a wife. The dark humor pours out. It made me shake my head more than a few times. The love story between Darcy and Elizabeth is a bit frustrating until they get out of their way.
Wickham is a bit surprising but not as much as Charlotte Lucas. Wow that one made me laugh out loud.
Virtual voice is new and honestly much better than having my phone read it to me.

Virtual Voice is not so great

Maybe this technology for presenting audible books will improve in time, but right now it has drawbacks. First of all it is monotone - not a lot of emotion. Words are often mispronounced. Everyone sounds alike and it is difficult distinguishing who is speaking. In this particular book, parts were missing. Virtual voice is good enough to understand what is happening, but not a particular enjoyable experience.

As to this story, it is rather lame and hard to accept. None of the characters act in the manner I expect of my beloved P&P characters. The Lydia/Wickham storyline is rather unique. Charlotte is downright diabolical.
