A Great Southern Tale

Very much enjoyed this book and the spot-on language and narration. The account follows a young woman as she explores her paternal family history and locale. Living in the South, and Tennessee in particular, I could relate strongly to the quirky characters and their stories. Highly recommend if you like moderately paced, well-developed, and intriguing historical fiction.

Great read

I loved this story! Growing up in Appalachia this book really hit home for me. There was so much about it that reminded me of my grandmother. Besides the personal attachment to places and characters this is a beautiful story. The narrator really brought it to life for me! I would highly recommend this one!

Wonderful

I live in Virginia, and part of the Appalachian mountains are here. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a big part of our culture. The story made me want to spend more time in this part of the state. There are some HUGE twists and turns that are very unexpected. Definitely not a happily ever after. But soo interesting all the way through

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK

The images portrayed by Dot Jackson in REFUGE were extremely rewarding. The words quickly stimulated memories of 80 years ago when growing up in Appalachia. Memories of those hills and people are my refuge today.

The author presents a very accurate picture of the cultural history of that time, in that place. The narrator captured the accent of the folks who grew up in and stayed in the mountains. I loved this book and can confidently recommend REFUGE.

Better than your favorite dessert

Wow!
Listening to this story from Dot Jackson makes me weep that there will be no more.
It was like eating a gourmet meal.
Hearing the genius narrative by Elizabeth Wiley was your best dessert on top.
I have already listened twice and there will be a third time. Which is a must in order to absorb all of the hidden gems inside.

Disappointed

Not sure what I expected. Seemed like the main character was a Scarlett wanna be. Kept listening hoping the story would get better
