    Scripture:

    Luke 10:38-42

    New International Version

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

  • Reflecting With Rainna #8: When Expectations and Emotions pee on your parade!
    Jan 25 2021

Hello there! I Am Rainna and I welcome you to reflect with me!

Today is January 24th 2021 and I have titled it:

When Expectations & Emotions pee on your parade!

In this entry I wanted to talk to you about the dangers of being emotionally invested in something. I have found , especially as a Christian, that this can be even more of a NO NO because it borders on Idolatry depending on the amount of your investment.

When we find ourselves putting our identity into our latest fandom and leaving God at the Door, we are indeed showing where all of our time, attention, and value is placed and it is no longer Christ we are following but something made of the world, for the world, and for the flesh...Which is all Satan can give you. This Junk of the world. Our attention is currency. What are you spending your currency on?

    • I found a great quote about Idolatry on Bible Reasons.com. “Anything that takes the place of God in your life is idolatry. Christ reigns over all and until you realize that you will be running around searching for things that will never complete you.”
    • There is a quote by John Calvin that covers this scenario perfectly imo, ““For what is idolatry if not this: to worship the gifts in place of the Giver himself?” John Calvin.”
    • In Ecclesiastes 1:8 it states “Everything is wearisome beyond description. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied. No matter how much we hear, we are not content.

    This can be easily avoided.

    First, place no expectations.

Stop expecting an outcome and you won't feel let down.

Expectations are like the cousins of lies imo. Expectations are a gamble since they are based on an outcome that hasn't come to fruition.

See how silly humans are? We place our own outcomes on stuff, then throw temper tantrums when it doesn't go our way. How does that even make sense?

The second thing we need to do is not put all of our emotions in our expectation basket.

    Helpful Quote!

    • "It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.

    Helpful Definition

    • "Confirmation bias occurs from the direct influence of desire on beliefs. When people would like a certain idea or concept to be true, they end up believing it to be true. They are motivated by wishful thinking. This error leads the individual to stop gathering information when the evidence gathered so far confirms the views or prejudices one would like to be true."

      Proverbs 16:18

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel: An Advent Study Paperback

    https://www.amazon.com/Come-Emmanuel-Advent-Study/dp/1087715717

    Scripture:

    Genesis 3:1-7

    The Fall

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%203:1-7&version=NIV

In this Emanuel Bible Study, we are asked this Question:

“Have you ever paused to consider what a mercy it is that God still invites us into his presence, even though we are sinners?”

    God loves us unconditionally.

We do not have to clean ourselves up to follow Jesus, he will get into our messy lives and work with us on his timing. He will help us clean up our mess. He is really the only one who can do it the right way imo. A change of the heart definitely outlasts a changing of the mind from my personal experience.

The fact that God loves us so much that he maintains an invitation to us to be with him for eternity shows us that even in our broken state he loves us. That his love for us is forever. He wants to have a relationship with us just as he did with Adam and Eve in the Garden. He didnt have to spend time with them in the Garden, but he made time for them. Even after they went against his orders, and ate from the tree of good and evil, he could have killed them ont he spot, but he didn't. He loved them enough to show them mercy. If you every catch yourself not feeling close to God , just remember that he has an open door policy. You don't have to be dressed fancy, talk fancy, or attend a bible college to be close to God. God created humans before an of that existed. His intent is to have a genuine relationship with us. If he meant to abandon us, he would never have sent Jesus to be born and later die for all of our sins. The death of Jesus on the cross , paying our sin debt, was a huge invitation.

    John 3:16

    New International Version

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
