Publisher's summary

The hotly anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times best-selling YA fantasy about Tarisai’s quest to change her fate.

For the first time, an Empress Redemptor sits on Aritsar’s throne. To appease the sinister spirits of the dead, Tarisai must now anoint a council of her own, coming into her full power as a Raybearer. She must then descend into the Underworld, a sacrifice to end all future atrocities.

Tarisai is determined to survive. Or at least, that’s what she tells her increasingly distant circle of friends. Months into her shaky reign as empress, child spirits haunt her, demanding that she pay for past sins of the empire.

With the lives of her loved ones on the line, assassination attempts from unknown quarters, and a handsome new stranger she can’t quite trust, Tarisai fears the pressure may consume her. But in this finale to the Raybearer duology, Tarisai must learn whether to die for justice...or to live for it.

wonderful ending to a great duology

This book is handles a lot of heavy topics in such a rich new manner. I wish I had read it when I was younger. It's moved me on a deep level.

Very different from the 1st book

I was so excited for this book after finishing “Raybearer”. Sadly this book was very different. The narrator is fantastic just as she was in the first book. The story itself had some big holes and focused on some non-essential parts and glosses over areas that you’d think would have been focused on. I’m curious to see if there’s another book after this one, as we get no major conclusion. I won’t spoil it but this book ends leaving a lot of questions unanswered. If you enjoyed “Raybearer” give this a try and see what you think of the conclusion yourself. Maybe others will be more satisfied with this story than I was. I felt it focused wayyyy to much on death whereas the first book was interesting and had a love plot playing amongst it. Sanjeet is barely in this story at all which was disappointing. Personally I felt there was a lot lacking from this book and it seems like the author felt they needed to quickly write a sequel to the first instead of really thinking the plot out ahead of time. Disappointed how this turned out I’m sorry to say.

Love This Series So Much

It’s no secret that Raybearer was one of my favorite reads of 2022, so I jumped into Redemptor right away with high hopes. And it did not disappoint!

Redemptor picks up right where Raybearer leaves off. Comparing to the first book, this one is a fair bit slower in pace, however somehow I felt like I didn’t get to know many of the characters quite as well. Despite that, I still loved getting to see more of the different cultures and backgrounds of each of the different characters! And the world building was just as phenomenal as in the first book!

If you haven’t yet, you should definitely pick up the Raybearer duology! If nothing else - the covers are some of my absolute favorite 😍

Joniece Abbott-Prett does a great job with the narration too!

Another 5 star!

I didn't think the sequel could top Raybearer. The further world expansion, all the new various characters and Tarisai still being my top protagonist ever. Not to mention I love the narrator for this series! It felt like I was watching a TV series play out in my head.

A Phenomenal Read!!!

This story is a page turner that keeps you engaged from start to end. I would highly recommend anyone to read this book. It keeps you on your toes and at the edge of your seat wanting more a you turn every page. Reading this book allows you to vision the story in 4k, as if it’s being watched as you read. I can’t wait to see the adaptation of this story into film. I know it will be just a wonderful as reading the lines of each page of the book.

Fabulous from start to finish!

I love a good sequel and this was one of the BEST! I’m not even sure how Ifueko could do such glorious work two books in a row. If the theme of the first book could be summed up as breaking generational curses, this one masterfully handled depression. The ojiji with their painful messages that rang with a hint of truth. They were the literal demons that plague negative self talk. So relatable and so engrossing.

Very good 2nd book

I struggled a little bit with this one in comparison to the first; however, it is still a great story. I still hear in my head "do moorreee" by the narrator - seriously great job.

A perfect conclusion for a lovingly crafted tale!

This reviews title says it all, what a wonderful story to have indulged with it's mysticism, varied personalities, and vivid cultural descriptions Afueko nails bringing a world to life such that it will linger in the hearts and minds of all those who go on this journey with the characters she has crafted for years to come.
