Reclaim the Lost Magic of Childhood Play!

Reclaim Play delivers an inspiring manifesto on why play is critical for children and a comprehensive how-to for parents to bring back the magic of childhood. Unlock the boundless creativity, imagination, and profound learning that flourish when children immerse themselves in independent play. The narrative of childhood has been rewritten over the past two decades. Play, once synonymous with childhood, has seen a worrying decline, paralleled by a concerning upsurge in children's mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression.

Reclaim Play champions the idea of entrusting children with the autonomy to explore, fostering their inner resilience, nurturing problem-solving skills, and cultivating independent thought. Every child is wired for play. Sadly, the richness of play has been overshadowed by the encroachments of technology, societal pressures for early achievements, and rampant materialism. Reclaim Play aims to reverse this trend, providing actionable steps, insightful solutions, and positive affirmations for parents eager to shield their children from these modern pitfalls, restoring the cherished art of imaginative play.

Critic reviews

"...Practical and wise, this book will help modern day parents and kids reclaim deeply nourishing, natural independent play. I couldn't recommend it more!"–Hunter Clarke-Fields, author of Raising Good Humans.

"...More than anything else, play develops their brains and bodies, sparks their creativity, and teaches them all the relational soft skills that are the hardest to learn later on. Avital Schreiber Levy knows this and teaches this better than anyone, and that's why I'm so thrilled she wrote this book."–Hal Runkel, NYT bestselling author of ScreamFree Parenting.

"This book... will save a generation of children from a play-less existence."–Dr. Shefali, Clinical Psychologist and NYT bestselling author of The Conscious Parent

Stands out from the rest

Parenting books can start to sound the same these days with all the focus on self-regulating, self-discovering, and self-improving or on the flip-side, an obsession on evaluating and labeling child behaviors. Everyone’s trying to hack parenting with behavior modification either in the parent or in the child. But this book stands out from the rest: it’s all about using your home (big or small) to meet the needs of your young children, making your home your most effective co-parent! Read by the author, this was a refreshing and engaging story of reclaiming play while also being continually practical. I enjoyed seeing my home with fresh eyes listening to this book - now I have inspiration and direction on what to do to proactively meet my child’s needs (without bending over backwards at every beck and call). From simplifying our toys to appreciating the great benefits of play in action, I really feel I have what I need now to have a peaceful home - not to mention I feel much lighter now after offloading a bag of guilt and pressure that I didn’t realize I was lugging around. If you have little kids (and/or baby like I do), save yourself a lot of headaches and tears and do yourself a great favor by getting this book!

Helpful in many ways

This has helped me see my kids' play in a new light and to stop myself from interupting the natural play that was already happening. Which I would do before by wanting to talk to them, asking random things, etc... I thought I was connecting with them, yet I was distracting them from being able to play on their own...

Furthermkre, I made a few adjustments in my home according to the idea of play zones and it had made a difference the same day. Even such simple part of getting the supplies out, so they can reach them without me having to hand everything. Saves me time and doesn't interupt their flow.

Overall it's a great book to help the littles discover the magic of independent play and the parents to catch a break (or do whatever else they'd like).
