Incredible Vulnerability & Honesty Leads To An Epic Encounter With God’s Love & Strength

I am impressed with this 33 year old songwriter’s maturity, way with words and willingness to question his preconceived ideas about God.

I am heartened by seeing a Christian man who role models a willingness to go beyond the intellectual understanding of God and push for experiencing God’s love for himself. Cory covers the importance for me to have a solid foundation of identity of myself based on how God really sees and feels about me. He encourages the reader to honestly look at how our caregivers shape our idea of “father” so that a more true view of God crystallizes in the reader’s heart.

Cory then traces his journey toward knowing Father God: “I had to become a father to learn how to become a son. I had to let go of my arrogance and let God love me into wholeness.” The journey doesn’t end here with a Pollyanna happy ending.

Cory’s experience of being a father leads him to a question of the goodness of love. There are a lot of topics about the reckless love of God and the fears, shame, feelings of abandonment, repentance, forgiveness that Cory covers in between. His devotional addresses how God desires to draw the hearts of the father to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers. Here, Cory shares his own journey of how this happens with his own biological father.

The last devotionals encourage me to be ready to encounter God’s reckless love and see the smile of God for me, for every reader.
