Get ready to cook up a generous helping of Pricilla Crumb and her hilarious schemes to serve up justice in this first book in the series.

Pricilla Crumb, a superb cook and articulate hostess, plans an informal buffet at her son’s mountain lodge, but the dinner party turns to chaos when a guest is found dead after sampling one of her salmon-filled tartlets. Pricilla’s determination to save her reputation and find out the truth begins her unofficial career as a novice detective—and second chance for romance.

This book is about a 65 year old woman who is a chef for her son’s hunting and fishing lodge. One of the guests is found dead, and later the police decide it was murder.

The book is funny at times, especially when describing the older characters’ idiosyncrasies and ailments. I love the way Lisa Harris writes humorously through the characters’ internal dialogue about the foibles of getting older. The two main characters are great friends but decide that they are more by the end of the book which is truly a lovely romance. The two provide most of the fun of the story for me.

I did not like the way the mystery part of the story ended. I will not go into details except to say that this part did not make sense completely. The pacing lags because Ms. Harris often summarizes things the readers / listeners already know. This happened right at the end which made the final lines redundant.

The British virtual voice is better than most other virtual narration, but use of the British voice was confusing because as far as I could tell, all characters were American and lived in America all their lives. Maybe I missed something.

In all, I found the story entertaining. I recommend it for anyone who loves a good mystery romance.

Interesting Choice of Narrator

Listened to other Virtual Voice books & they had great narration but didn't like the fake
British accent for this one. Please use a regular American speech pattern!

Cute But

I don’t like the virtual voice. It’s doesn’t pick up on inflections that are in the language.

I will do my best in the future to avoid book selections that are narrated by a computer. While it’s clear and understandable, it offers absolutely no character emotional development and is tedious and boring.

Terrible computer generated narration
