Publisher's Summary

Cloudan Coustre isn't the driving force to save humanity, the universe, or even the kitten stuck in his neighbor's tree. He isn't a father, brother, spouse, nor significant other to anyone. When it comes right down to it, Cloudan Coustre isn't even alive. What is he then? He is the embodiment of death, this day and age's version of the Grim Reaper. Mr. Coustre is fed up with life as death, but what is a deity in middle management to do to effect change? More importantly, what happens when he figures that out?

Welcome to a snap shot into the life of being death. In this psychopomp form, death decides that being a part of the living suits him. Just long enough to get himself caught up in a murder investigation, then he watches as it all unrolls. Ending in a place he would never have imagined.

A different kind of urban fantasy...

... So I got this because it sounded different from the Urban Fantasy fare I regularly ingest, where Death (aka, the Grim Reaper), currently known as Cloudan Coustre, is actually the protagonist. And I found Cloudan to be a perfectly affable guy.
Seriously it's like, ummmm if the old black and white Fredric March movie, Death Takes a Holiday, , was merged with the series "The Almighty Johnsons"! (ooops I may have just dated myself, there... In my defence, the movie was a rerun!)
Yeah, you heard me, Death gets all mixed up with Norse mythology, and if that's not crazy enough, there's a smattering of Greek and Egyptian mythos sprinkled on top. As an added bonus, there's a plot to reverse the effects from Ragnarok! Because, I don't know as much about these things, I would occasionally lose my way in the narrative, but then Cloudan would start talking about clothing or somethin' and I'd laugh (often, right out loud) at the joke, and be right back on track!
John Pirhalla is a fantastic voice performer and he just nailed all the book's varied characters.
I'm pretty sure you'll love this book, especially if you enjoyed movies like Death takes a Holiday, Meet Joe Black, and Heaven Can Wait... only mixed in with a lot of mythology! 😊

Tour de Force

This book was like going back to college and reliving humanities. A hilarious, zany romp through the eyes of the grim reaper as he unfolds a mystery wrapped up in all the folklore and mythos the world has to offer. I won't lie, you have to know your shtuff to really follow along with sometimes subtle hints at mythic beings but just stay on the rollercoaster because it all makes sense as you speed along. Absolutely made me think of American Gods (NG) and cracking open old books to see who the heck those characters were. RR is a much different book than AG but just as ambitious. It also is quite humorous from a sarcastic bent.
Holding it all together is the narrator. Unbelievable amount of voices in this book and this guy nails them all. If you're like me, a narrator can make or break a book. John Pirhalla took the book to another level. Fantastic production.

Good Story, But I Got Lost Towards the End...

I believe the author had a good story line, and I was able to keep up with what was going on, until it got closer towards the end.

Once Christian brought in all the Mythical Gods, Demons, and other characters that had died before into the story, I felt somewhat lost and overwhelmed.

The narration by John Pirhalla was AWESOME!!! He did an Excellent Job with all the characters. This was my first time hearing from him and I fell in love with his abilities. I would definitely look for other books he has narrated for.

I can't say that I wouldn't not say I wouldn't recommend "Reaper's Revenge" but for me, it just wasn't my cup of tea, but it may be for someone else.

Great story about the myth behind the Reaper

The main story line was well thought out and truly enjoyable. It was interesting learning about the different periods in the Reapers life and how his powers work. It did get a little confusing towards the end with the cast of characters which I believe has more to do with listening to the story than reading it (hence the four stars). The narrator, John Pirhalla, did a wonderful job separating each voice of the characters and giving them their own voice. Overall all a thoroughly enjoyable series!

Enjoyable even if you don't know Mythology

It's been years since I had a mythology lesson in school and it's not something I am really interested in.

Anyway I was given this book free from Audiobook Boom in exchange for an honest review.

Overall this book was very enjoyable although it got a bit confusing around the last two hours of the book when there were several different mythological legends and gods being spoken about and for someone not familiar with the gods, it was kind of hard to remember which god was the god of what, etc.

I didn't like that the story ended on a cliff hanger, I never like it when I know a book is making me wait for a second book to find out how the story ends.

I did find the story well written, fun and the narrator did a good job of making each character sound unique.
It is worth a credit.

Brilliant

I really enjoyed this novel. If you like the gods, greek and norse, the epic heroes, and the reaper himself you will love this new age twist. The writing is brilliant. The narration is perfect, enhancing this great story. My only problem with this book is that it is a part one, and as of writing this part two has not been produced. I can't wait to find out how it ends. I highly recommend this series. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left my honest review.

Mythology comes to life in Modern Times.

Reaper's Revenge is an interesting story that brings ancient mythology to life in modern times, in that respect it is somewhat
similar to Neil Gaiman's American God's novel. The novel follows the character of Cloudan who is the Grim Reaper in the form of a Metro sexual modern man who is quite stylish and dresses "just this side of douchey". He is a likeable character even when he is reaping people and has a pretty good sense of humor even if it can be a bit dark. He gets embroiled in a plot by other characters that change everything for him and possibly the world.

The story has a lot of different Gods and being from Mythology of all different cultures and how they come together and how things are still happening in modern times is pretty interesting. The narration by Christian Reinhardt was great and really fit the characters well especially Cloudan. I would definitely recommend the book as it was very entertaining and am a fan of mythology although I wouldn't say it is necessary to be a fan of it but it is a plus.

Interesting Enough

This book starts out as a day in the life of death which I found very interesting. It was like a character study of death, and in some ways like the old Showtime show Dead Like Me. There wasn't much plot for the first 2/3 of the book, but also I didn't really care because I was entertained by the episodic reapings.

Then around the 2/3 mark the story changes, a plot is introduced, and I found the story far less compelling that in the earlier chapters. It's usually the other way around, but I felt like there were a bit too many moving parts and not enough build up to make me feel connected to the overall story arc. I ended up taking a break to watch TV shows and listen to other things about 2 hours from the end, and then came back to finish it off.

This isn't what I would call a bad book. As I said, it is interesting. It's just a bit inconsistent in terms of the storytelling style, and I didn't really like the change of pace.

What an Adventure!!

Cloudan Coustre was hilarious, witty, funny, sarcastic and the list goes on. I truly enjoyed listening to the Reaper's Revenge. It was written brilliantly, charged with mystery, twist and turns thrown into a moshpit of folklore and mythology. That being said, even with less than basic knowledge of these mythoi, you can still follow and enjoy the story. Moreover, one must appreciate the amount of research the author must have done to have written this book.

Christian V. Reinhardt did an incredible job with the plot and character development. The dialogue was superb with clever and witty banter. I had many LOL moments. As for the writing, it was excellent with exceptional vocabulary and clear transitions. There wasn't a single moment that I felt bored or thought that the story dragged.

As for the narrator, John Pirhalla, he was incredible. I absolutely loved him. He is quite talented, especially with different timbres and voices for all the various characters. He brought each one to life and gave them personality. I'd like to listen to more of his work.

I highly recommend Reaper's Revenge and I hope there will be a second book.

“A man with nothing left has nothing left to lose”

This book probably warrants a higher rating; the book is really enjoyable to listen to and the narration is great, but I just felt a bit lost and couldn’t keep up with what was happening once everyone came out as a mythic diety.
Well written, well narrated and really enjoyable!

Witty and Captivating

Cloudan is the Grim Reaper in this tale, and this story is so filled with lore and backstory linked to myths that I hadn't heard of as in-depth as a few others may have. Still, there was no struggle to read what happens and it works well at introducing and explaining the myths in a way that wouldn't seem condescending - at I don't think it would. Cloudan's personality is everything I adore in leads of a story, the wit and charm always draws me in. It truly is a wonderfully written tale that I will likely listen to again and again

A look into a life of death.
Cloudan is the Grim Reaper but he prefers being with the living.
He gets caught up in murder investigation and as he watches it all unfold things start to get strange.
I like the aspects of mythology are wound into the story and Cloudan’s sarcasm is great.

Good performance

Good mythology & current blended story. There were several flashbacks that made it difficult to follow in audiobook since there wasn’t any warning in the audiobook format that the scene was suddenly jumping back. The narrator did a great job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
