Amazing Grace...

I found this book in March & have been busy changing my life ever since! This book spoke to me in a way that no other has in a very long time. Instead of another book on how to fake out the audience when speaking, it teaches me to speak my truth, whatever my truth may be. Since reading it, my life has taken on a new and liberating peace. Thank you, Robert! (and for my 12 year old: "I'm not trying to be right and I'm not afraid of being wrong!")

better than the book!

I nearly didn't purchase this title as a result of a previously unfavourable review on this site. I turned to a preview of the actual book on amazon to check its contents and was disappointed to note that it was a collection of course participants stories, rather than Robert Rabbin's own "voice" which I've come to appreciate through reading his other 2 books on audible. Was I fortunate that I followed my instinct and still purchased the title, to find out that, unlike the printed book, the entire audiobook is in fact Mr Rabbin's own commentaries, a distillation of insights, techniques, analysis, encouragement to his readers. In no way did I find it "self-promoting". I hope Mr Rabbin continues to write and inspire in his own distinct voice!

A thoughtful and in-depth

A thoughtful and in-depth reminder of who is the true master in our lives. Can't wait to hear from the author again.

helpful info

Would you consider the audio edition of RealTime Speaking to be better than the print version?

I suppose it could be. I have not read the print version. This version was very good.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting was the stories of how his workshops transformed people's lives and the little anecdotes he shared in between.

Have you listened to any of Markus Flanagan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Do not be afraid to be vulnerable. Speak from your heart and soul, it is what connects you to your audience. The facts don't matter if there is no human connection.

Any additional comments?

While listening, I expected more actual nuts and bolts tips from the workshops. I have since gleaned that the workshop is simply about giving people space to speak publicly while standing their fears and doubts. Allowing them to stand in it until the negative self talk disappeared. I did not have public speaking fears, I have done it often in my life. I am used to feeling the pulse of the audience to gauge whether or not I am being understood, heard, etc. I choose this book being concerned over what to say in a daily online vlog. This did help, in the author's saying, know your audience and just speak to them, from your heart.

self promotion inc

The amount of meaningless drivel in this book is equal to the distance that light travels for 100 years at 186000 miles per second. Enough already with the over-the-top numerical comparisons and the all-encompassing advice. Also, for such a short book, there is an amazing amount of material on how great the author is. This is kind of a funny notion, since the author is so down on people who tout their credentials instead of their essence. The reason this gets two stars (instead of one) is that if you can manage to listen without gritting your teeth to the nubs, there is some reasonable advice that can be distilled. Of course, a version of the audio book thus exuded would only last about ten minutes.

It’s just okay

I didn’t find it very clear or compelling. Not a book I’d recommend to others.
