Publisher's summary

The chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) turns a critical eye toward such practices as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and psychokinesis. Are such powers really possible? Science says yes.

According to noted scientist and best-selling author of The Conscious Universe, Dean Radin, magic is a natural aspect of reality, and each of us can tap into this power with diligent practice.

But wait, aren't things like ESP and telepathy just wishful thinking and flights of the imagination? Not according to the author, who worked on the US government's top secret psychic espionage program known as Stargate. Radin has spent the last 40 years conducting controlled experiments that demonstrate that thoughts are things, that we can sense others' emotions and intentions from a distance, that intuition is more powerful than we thought, and that we can tap into the power of intention (think The Secret, only on a more realistic and scientific level). These dormant powers can help us to lead more interesting and fulfilling lives.

Beginning with a brief history of magic over the centuries (what was called magic 2,000 years ago is turning out to be scientific fact today), a review of the scientific evidence for magic, a series of simple but effective magical techniques (the key is mental focus, something elite athletes know a lot about), Radin then offers a vision of a scientifically informed magic and explains why magic will play a key role in frontiers of science.

Good Start on Magic

If you could sum up Real Magic in three words, what would they be?

This is a modern and scientific look at magic.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Real Magic?

One and the reason I bought the book was the three kinds of magic.

Have you listened to any of Mark Bramhall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not read or listened to any of Mark Bramhall's works but I'll take a look at his list.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I would have listened to this book if I had the time all together, I have listened to some of it twice because some things I already knew by other sources or other names.

Any additional comments?

This is a really outstanding book, I own both the Kindle and Audible versions and plan to by a printed version also.

I'm Skeptical, But ... (Open Letter to Dr. Radin)

Dr. Dean Radin,

I myself am a researcher; and like many others I have chosen to look at everything with a critical eye.

That being said, I know how difficult it is to deliver research results to an audience who's minds have already been made about the topic. I study something we call STEM Theory which is a radical new approach to resource allocation and distribution (aka: the STEM Epiconomy). However, the theory depends on the removal of currency as both the "value arbiter" and social motivational factor in favor of healthier and more effective motivational foci (both psychological and sociological).

As it turns out, money is so deeply ingrained into the human psyche that the task of convincing others of the viability of STEM Theory has become a task of herculean proportions - never mind the seasoned, time-tested foundational theories and the results of our current research endeavors.

So, Dr. Radin, I understand your plight with the scientific community. Even those who've set themselves on a pubic pillar of honesty and a willingness to follow the data no matter what it says; when you start talking about getting rid of money, they stop listening right then and there. Most will simply say "I think money is an incredible development!" and leave it at that.

I have chosen to not reflect the mindsets of my peers.

I have found your arguments interesting to say the least. Though I am skeptical of the nature of all things psi, I am wholly open (and I mean TRULY open) to hearing and reading more. In fact, after reading your book and reviewing much of you work - I have engaged in a fair amount of "belief house-cleaning".

The fact that I have yet to find any credible arguments against any of your research indicates to me that the anti-psi movement is fueled by nothing more than baseless bias and academic haughtiness.

Thank you for believing in yourself and your field in an atmosphere where you're constantly ridiculed and looked down upon. You've given me hope with my own efforts.

Sincerely -
Thomas Wright

A debate that will last forever

Tangible vs intangible, hard-skills versus soft-skills will always create a debate when it comes to defining the measurement of impact or value. I enjoyed the rendition of the ongoing debate.

Some of the most convincing evidence Ive heard yet

The reading given by Mark Bramhall is excellent, I really felt the author speaking through him. The evidence supplied, while not without challenges, makes some pretty hard to ignore cases for the existence of magic. If you're already a believer you will love the evidence given here to help back up your beliefs. If you're a skeptic prepare to be challenged. You may not be convinced but if you're honest with yourself you'll have to recognize there's a possibility.

Mostly Interesting

It is interesting to hear from a guy who come from the Ivy League academics class, believes in magic, and is willing to admit it, since I suspect that many people from his class—our modern day high priests—believe like Radin and don’t publicly admit it. Their publicized dogma has been falling apart for a while. Radin is a clear communicator and most of the book is an easy listen and somewhat informative. He regards double blind, placebo-controlled trials as the ultimate truth-seeking tool, and did bore me for a few chapters droning about how they’d been used to prove magic. Radin should have explored magic from the Laws of Nature angle. Do the Laws of Nature vary over time? Are they affected by our beliefs or “collective consciousness”. Did some powerful person or organization cause magic to be unleashed on us? Who knows, but for now, we’ll have to adapt to the confusion that magic will cause our society.

Give it a Minute..or Hour

I was so excited to listen to this, then I was disappointed, then I wasn't. It's true, narration is alittle dry but nothing you can't get past. Someone else noted that the book was largely citations and for the first hour or so it was, and I was so disappointed, but get past that, and it does really get good. Fascinating evidence of our magical potential and capabilities.
