Publisher's summary

Have you ever wondered why:

  • You have difficulty maintaining close, intimate, fulfilling relationships?
  • You easily get angry at other people and blame them for how you feel?
  • You tend to overreact to inconveniences and injustices?
  • You often feel alone?
  • You tend to avoid people?
  • You sometimes use alcohol or drugs to "take the edge off" the tension you feel?
  • You have a strong need to be "right" and win arguments or discussions?
  • You have a temper?
  • You are often mystified by the behavior of other people?
  • You often have difficulty understanding why you feel as you do?
  • People around you - spouse, lover, children, coworkers - seem to avoid you?
  • Your reactions to situations seem out of proportion to the event itself?
  • You use your intellect, physical appearance, wit, and money to get attention?
  • You often feel hurt by what other people do to you? Or by what they fail to do for you?
  • People around you seem intimidated or irritated when you interact with them?

If you are like roughly 98 percent of us, your answer to two or more of these questions is "Yes", and you're confused about exactly why these conditions exist in your life. Anger, frustration, and loneliness are the most destructive diseases on the planet - by far - and we are not adequately addressing their causes and solutions.

Finally, in Real Love and Post-Childhood Stress Disorder, we can learn about why we're angry and lonely, along with the real reasons we have relationship problems, and we can learn to actually eliminate these conditions.

Critic reviews

"Dr. Greg Baer gave me what I'd been missing in 25 years as a therapist. He explained the powerful and lasting effects of childhood wounds, and now I give every client and couple who comes into my office a copy of one of his books. You do not want to miss out on these principles that will transform your life no matter what happened in your past." (Liz Hale PhD)

Eh

The subject matter is personal to me, and I was looking forward to learning more. But The narration is terrible. His speech is choppy. Odd pauses between syllables and an odd emphasis on pronunciation. You can tell this guy really finds himself interesting. I recommend reading this book over listening.

Game Changing

This is the fourth book in the Real Love series I have been through and I think the most impactful. I have always believed we all bring some damage out of childhood if from nothing more than children's inability to correctly interpret the world around them. This book applies to us all. Whether you feel you have trauma to overcome or look to be on the healing end of someone else's this is what you want to hear.

Narrated by the author, he gives you insight as he emphasizes the parts he feels important. There is so much thinking to be done as he narrates that his performance isn't as important. He's a good storyteller, and there are stories, but he's not magical. It's a great listen from the information side and not performance. He delivers the information earnestly and it is captivating.

This book is life-changing if you let it.

RELEIVED .... There is NOTHING wrong with me!

If I could click 10 starts, I would!
I've now followed and implemented the Real Love principles for 5 years. Listening to Real Love and PCSD helped me understand more clearly the root of my wounds, and the healing power of unconditional love.
Everyone of us need to read it to create at last peace within, peace in our families and peace on Earth. It's actually a fun journey!

Best of the best

This book makes most other self help books irrelevant. This book has the answers and solutions that just can't be found elsewhere.

Waste of time

As a Board Certified Psychiatrist I was curious about a different point of view. It was clear that the author, while an MD, had not completed any kind of training in psychiatry. If he had he would have been well aware that relational trauma, or what he so inventively calls (as if he had discovered it) PCSD , is at the core of all psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic theory since the beginning of time. He contradicts himself all over the place. For example, he first points to CBT as a treatment for PTSD, Then he states that it's simplistic. He makes observations that he claims are his own, yet anyone trained in even the most rudimentary therapy practices would be aware of them. It was actually amusing to read a lay person's interpretation presented as an "expert opinion".

overall good but weird opinions

good points, but huge dispoitment at the end: that the girl has too tight blouse and jeans therefore it is her fault the relatioships of hers did not end up well becuase she is beeing only seen as a sexual object for men. the author had to fall on his head. everything is not just about men, they dont get it but we might also dress for ourselves.

Very eye opening! 🙂

Most insightful! Learned quite a bit about the "why" of what we do and tools to start to make changes.
