Publisher's Summary

From the little community of Morgan's Bluff, located on the very banks of the Sabine River near Orange, Texas, to Israel, the land where our Lord Jesus Christ came into this world to redeem fallen mankind from their sinful condition. This is an amazing story of how God can use anyone he chooses to spread his word. This book will bring laughter at the funny stories that took place in the fishing, hunting, boating, fast cars and student pranks that were done in my school years.

There are humorous accounts of shoplifters being caught and terrorized by store managers, as well as amazing accounts of how God provided time and time again for a simple ministry that has grown to a world-wide ministry, reaching billions with God's word.

You can hear many recent real life testimonies of students who have suffered great persecution at the hands of the enemy and also be blessed to hear how God has used this ministry to transform their lives through his word. This book is my life story from the humble beginnings in Orange, Texas, to now, President of The Bread of Life International Bible Correspondence Institute. But even more than that, it is a testimony of how God can use anyone who is willing to allow him to lead and direct their lives and trust in his ability to do so, and not their own abilities. To God be the glory how he continues to reach down to fallen man with his love through simple men and women who are not afraid to live by faith.

I'd recommend that you just read the book yourself

What did you like best about Reaching the Perishing? What did you like least?

I enjoyed the personal anecdotes of Mr. Woodard's life. Especially, the stories from his youth in the south. I could relate and imagine many of his recollections very clearly. A few of the details given in the book were not that interesting nor pertinent to the overall story. I believe some more details with his accounts of reaching the perishing would have made this book stronger.

What didn’t you like about Dickie Thomas’s performance?

I'm sure Mr. Thomas is a fine person. I'm also sure that doing a quality narration is much more difficult than many make it seem. However, I had a very hard time with his narration. This was the first book that I've listened to that I often found myself distracted. Especially in the first half of the book, I would miss details because I was focused instead on the odd emphasis used in many sentences.

Did Reaching the Perishing inspire you to do anything?

A book with a title such as this is undoubtedly going to remind us/stir us to reach others with the Good News of Jesus Christ. I did actually expect a bit more of that inspiration in this book. The focus here was on the life story of Mr. Woodard. And I do appreciate that. The work that he is undertaking for the Kingdom of God is a wonderful thing, and I have nothing but respect for what he is doing.

Any additional comments?

I received this audio-book at no charge in exchange for an unbiased, honest review.

Informative and Inspiring Memoir

There are references to prejudice, as well as to cultural traditions. All three of his memoirs are based on memories, interviews, photographs, and other records, and make for an educational and fascinating listen. A fourth memoir was apparently published this year. I look forward to reviewing it at a later date!

Wonderful story of perseverance

A wonderful story of perseverance. I am presently trying to get his audiobooks out to professors of cultural study to add to their assigned listening. Obviously, I am impressed by the narrating style.

A Lesson Taught Well

I am white and was raised in a small-town fairly homogeneous community. My parents had a stable marriage and I was lucky enough to have two great siblings. Dr. Johnny only similarity with me is a loving family. His description of his college years is the third in a trilogy that, though fictional, closely parallels the struggles Dr. Johnny faced. It is was both inspirational and honest. It also showed me much of a world I had previously not known. It is an easy, but important listen.

Go and buy the audiobook now!

This audiobook is a must-listen for everyone. It tells the story of a family's struggle to integrate into American society. It is a story of struggle and triumph. But in spite of it all they never gave up, there is a lot we can learn from them. The most important lesson to bear in mind is that behind every dark cloud there is a silver lining

Inspiring!

Part of a trilogy about an illegal child and his family - very pertinent to my students who are in the same boat!! Working on becoming US citizens - human beings.
