Publisher's summary

Once again Nell Pratt has to dig into the past to solve a murder in the present....

Between the challenges of her position as president of the Pennsylvania Antiquarian Society in Philadelphia and of taking her relationship with FBI agent James Morrison to the next level, Nell Pratt has got her hands full. Nevertheless, when a powerful developer approaches the Society to make sure the old dairy farm he wants to level is not hiding any archeological or historical surprises that could derail the project he's planning, Nell decides to make time to personally accompany him to the proposed site. But when they get to the property, they stumble upon a startling discovery - a body floating face down in a pond. The dead man turns out to be an amateur history enthusiast who may have uncovered secrets about the farm that got him killed. Now it's up to Nell and James to get to the bottom of things before there are more deadly developments....

Connolly keeps getting even better

It doesn’t hurt that I love American history. Shelia Connolly’s Museum mysteries are a joy.
As always, great character development, pleasing plots and I have yet to figure out “who dunit”. Perfect read

Finally did it!

Really enjoyed this book. Actually enjoyed the whole collection. Original settings and story lines. I like Nell isn't always the person finding the bodies 🙃

A Good Entry in the Series

I was disappointed by "Monument to the Dead" which is the last book of this series that I read. However, I had enjoyed all the other books in this series and decided to buy this one. I'm glad I did.

I found "Monument to the Dead" disappointing because it seemed to me that not very much happened until the very end of the book. In this book. things start to happen right away and continue throughout the book. There is a good story to tell, and there are some surprises in the plot.

There is also a little more development of Nell Pratt's personal life that adds interest to the story.

The is an entertaining, light read.

Good Story Bad Narration

I enjoyed this story but I don't like the narrator. Robin Miles makes Nell sound like a woman with a stick up her a**. I'll probably suffer through the next book because I like the series.

Love tis series

it is intelligent while still being cozy. The reader is articulate and natural. I recently listened to a very unnatural, staccato kind of reader making this all the more appreciated. I hope Nell and James have many more adventures, historical and otherwise.

Enjoyable

I liked this book, it has interesting characters and I love the history elements. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the strange ending. I didn't even realize the killer had been revealed until the audio ended...

Whining and complaining

I enjoy the idea of this series, and wanted to get past the complaining nature of the main character but I just couldn't. I couldn't even finish the book. It doesn't help that the narrator makes her sound like a whiny stick in the mud. I have listened to every other book in this series but this is where I end.

Where is the ending?!

I read all of the books in this series and have liked them all. But this time, it felt like the author realized she was about to miss her deadline and just wrote a few pages to wrap everything up in a neat bow. It was a very unsatisfying ending.
