Publisher's Summary

Howdy. My name's Lucian Colt.

I'm one of those disgruntled millennials you've heard about on the evening news. I've got a master's degree in art history, a mountain of student loan debt, and no job to show for it.

Wait, scratch that. I track down stolen pieces of art for wealthy clients and then beat whoever stole them to within an inch of their life. Say what you will, but it puts bread on the table.

Something went wrong with this last job of mine, though. I walked in on something I wasn't supposed to see and got murdered by witches. Yeah, real, legit witches. Never saw that one coming, did you? Neither did I, and the only reason I'm writing this is because some doctor working for an ancient secret society decided it would be a good idea to use me as a science experiment.

See, he implanted a new heart in me and saved my life, but it wasn't just any old heart. It was a demon's heart. Nifty, eh?

Anyhow, I'm back and better than ever, except that now and then the demon takes over completely, and I do awful things. Lose control.

But enough about that. This is a story about how I (mostly) rein in the demon's impulsive personality and seek revenge against the coven of witches that tried to kill me. Along the way I learn a thing or two about this secret society I'm apparently now a member of and find out that there's a lot of shit out there that goes bump in the night.

Mandatory disclaimer: Yeah, look, some people don't like the way I talk. I say words like f--k a lot. If you want to take this ride, then you should know there's going to be a whole lot of cussing and violence along the way. And if I'm lucky, there'll be some skin, too. But who knows? Maybe you'll like it, you filthy animal.

Great Story.

Would you consider the audio edition of Raw Power: An Urban Fantasy Novel to be better than the print version?

Yes. Reading is great but audio books make you hear the emotions of the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Raw Power: An Urban Fantasy Novel?

when the demon took over and tried to kill everyone.

What does James Foster bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings out the emotions of the Hero.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Demon inside me.

Any additional comments?

Wow!! This book was fantastic. It was fast paced, Never a dull moment. It is like The Dr
esden files, the Jonathan Shade books with a touch of The Joe Ledger books and a pinch of Lords of the Underworld(Hidden Demon). I look forward to reading more of these. I would recommend this series. I received this book free from the author/narrator for a honest review. However, i would not hesitate to buy the book. It was great

Decent

First of all, this is not a book for children. It has some very gory scenes. I had to skip through scenes that felt like they were trying to be appalling. I get that some people like that, though.

It took me a while to get into it. It has a lot of simile, but when it started comparing bones breaking to cracking nutshells, I start thinking my car needed an oil change. Lucian kept doing things that threw me out of the story, like directly talking to the reader. I did like the writing and the story, and it had a great opening, but I wasn’t interested in the main character.

Lucian kept explaining his feelings and thoughts when it wasn’t necessary. For example, when he described the demon first taking over his body, it went on for many paragraphs, pretty much saying the same thing over and over. I couldn’t help but to think, everyone knows what it’s like to be possessed by a demon, so move on already. It did get better, but that was because I got used to it.

James Foster did a phenomenal job. The volume, the voices, the enthusiasm, and the tone were all spot on. He truly perfected the main character’s personality.

Overall, it was interesting enough to finish, but not one I would read over and over again. I would be willing to listen to more audiobooks by this author and narrator.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.

Lucian Colt and company make for a great story!

Lucian Colt is a freelance collector of debts and items. When one of his richer clients asks him to collect a certain item, he thinks nothing of it. He tracks it down, but what he doesn't expect is a coven of evil witches using the item in a dark magic rite. He intrudes upon the ritual, and is attacked and almost killed. His client, who is actually a member of a secret society policing the supernatural, finds him and takes him to his group, who decide to save him the only way they can: by replacing his damaged heart with that of the demon they slew, and who's heart they had available. This has the effect of completely healing Lucian. Unfortunately, during the new moon, the Demon in that heart takes over his body, and goes walkabout, causing havoc! Lucian tries to gain control, and use the powers he has gained for good, all while teamed with a group of magic users as they try and track down the witches coven and stop their plans.
The story is is full of interesting characters, and their motivations are hidden quite often. The action is fast paced, and you wont be able to stop listening. James Foster, who is one of my favorite narrators because of his range of voices, does a great job bring all the characters and the story to life. Any fan of urban fantasy will enjoy this story.

I was given a copy of this story by the author or narrator free of charge in exchange for an honest review through Audiobook Boom.

bring on the power!

More power please!

this was a GREAT book! very different then the others I have read about demons and witches etc.
I love that the book is told from the main characters point of view. He tells it so well. I like how he is telling it to you as if your old friends, and he is telling you about something that happened in his life. it just made it seem more real to me.

Raw Power has a very interesting storyline. Lucy Colt was making a living by beating people up and returning stolen goods back to their rightful owners., until he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Walking in on a coven of witches doing something evil so they kill him right there on the spot! instead of willing to die, he agrees to transplant his heart with that of a demon to keep alive.
he learns quickly what this little deal intakes, and is now part of a secret world against good and evil!
great book! and Lucy is funny, and easy to understand and seem like a very real person.
The narrator does a amazing job putting this all together!
I am VERY excited for part two of this book.

Man gets Demon Heart, Witches, Action, and More

Raw Power: An Urban Fantasy Novel
Demon-Hearted, Book 1
By: Ambrose Ibsen
Narrated by: James Foster
Lucian is a guy you pay to get things back, especially stolen art. What he is paid to get this time gets him a new heart...that or die. The heart is not just any heart, it's a demon heart and it comes with a membership to the Veiled society. Oh, yeah, fun kick butt fun! Witches, creatures, and Lucian trying to learn to deal with the power and evil of the demon. I loved it! I got hooked on this author with the Afterlife Investigation series and I had these books but hadn't started them. After listening to his other series, I bought the audible for demon hearted especially when I saw the narrator. I have listened to this narrator before and he is great and he showed me I was right, he was wonderful! Awesome voices, emotions, timing, just perfect!

Raw Power

I love it when blood, gore and horror is all wound up with a good laugh or two.
That being said, Oreos ate off my list of eatable foods.

James Foster does an excellent job of narrating.

Fantastic, inventive writing, Superb Narrator.

Would you listen to Raw Power: An Urban Fantasy Novel again? Why?

Absolutely! The writing is terrifically detailed and inventively creative. The characters have depth and you can relate to them. The narrator is absolutely amazing with voices for each character. His performance is the right pace and the story travels along with out dragging in any spot.

Repo Man

Lucien is a repo man. He retrieves valuable objects for his customers. While looking for a valuable artifact he unwittingly barged in on a coven of witches using the artifact in a spell. Things did not go well for Lucien. Upon waking up he discovers he has been given a demon’s heart to save his life. He also learns he is now a member of the Veiled Order. A bit far-fetched, but it is horror story after all. The Veiled Order is a group of paranormals recruited and organized to “protect humanity from what dwells in the beyond”. Lucien is introduced to his new crew; Cubo the lead, Fire-Joe and Isabella the magician. Their first mission was to take down the coven of witches that earlier terminated Lucien. Throughout the story Lucien learns how to control his demon, or not. He also learns how to interact with people and ultimately how to be a friend. Not too bad. Three.point.five for a fine effort.

Came for the narrator, stayed for the story!

James Foster....sigh....his voice makes me feel like I'm listening to long lost best friend. Automatically comfortable. Great start to this book!

There's enough back story on the main character to get to know him, like him and be on his side - but not too much time spent where it drags on. The nitty gritty starts after just a few chapters.....but even then, we're nicely eased into the story along with Lucien (main guy/hero?/protagonist). Something about Lucien and his style of character reminds of Damian from the Vesik books (Eric Asher) - I'd hang out with either of them lol :)

I made note of the "Mandatory disclaimer" from the description, and didn't notice any more swearing or violence than what I might normally read .....although that varies from zombies to romance, so grain of salt and all.....

Excellent

I've devoured this book. I don't know what I was expecting. The summary makes it sound interesting and I think it delivers that and more. I really liked Lucy/Lucion and Joe. The writing style is good, sort of relaxed and appealing, without pretention. Very much an adult book.

The narrator is amazing, great with the characters and the story in general.

From start to finish this was a great book and I'm looking forward to number 2.

Another enjoyable book narrated by James Foster

What about James Foster’s performance did you like?

James Foster’s performance is great and makes the book come to life.

Any additional comments?

After finishing listening to the book, I was left hoping that book 2 won't be too far away.A good start to what I hope will be a multi book series. I enjoyed when Lucian discovered his powers, and I am looking forward to what other powers he will discover in the future.
