Publisher's Summary

All Timberlyn wants is to get out of her small town, where she's branded a freak just because she happens to wear all black and draw gruesome monsters in her notebooks.

When a letter arrives saying she's been accepted to the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the exceptionally Gifted, she jumps at the chance. Never mind that she's not sure what she's supposedly gifted at, or the fact that she doesn't remember actually applying there.

When she arrives, the school seems like a dream full of beautiful people ready to befriend her. There's only one problem with Ravenwood: it's run by Alarick Wolf and his brothers, three surly, thuggish, insanely gorgeous guys. Timberlyn's new friends give strict instructions to stay far away from them.

Unfortunately, she's not good at taking orders.

When girls at the school begin disappearing, Timberlyn refuses to maintain the status quo. She's sure Alarick and the Wolf boys are up to something, and if she has to, she'll take them down herself.

That is, if they don't take her down first.

This is a slow burn romance series appropriate for 14+ due to language. Though there are several guys in Timberlyn's life, this is not Reverse Harem.

Cliffhanger warning.

Absolutely fantastic!!

I absolutely loved this story!!! It was a fanatic story that pulled me in from beginning to end. It is written very well and the narrator did a fantastic job bringing the story to life even more. The characters were great and I absolutely love Timberlyn. This story does end on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to figure out what happens next. I need to know more about the wolf brothers and what’s going to happen there, don’t want to give spoilers so no specifics. This was a great beginning to the series and I truly can’t wait to pick up the next one and continue on this journey.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Only the beginning

I originally read an ARC of this book. I am including a copy of my original review. My only comment that is specifically about the audio version is that the narrator was a familiar one to me and she does a great "ditzy" protagonist which I didn't feel fit this story, but that is probably just me!

Timberlyn is an outcast at her Arkansas school. Ever since she admitted that the monsters she draws come to her in her dreams she has been bullied, teased, and made fun of. She has learned to embrace her inner beitch and gone goth to add a layer of protection. Meanwhile, she has applied at every private school she can find that has a scholarship program, though God knows she isn't a scholar. When a letter shows up in her mail box saying she has been accepted to Ravenwood Academy she is overjoyed but cautious since she doesn't remember ever applying to any such school. Finding out that the place really does exist is great, but it is all the way up in Canada. As luck would have it her grandmother moved to the same town some years back. Timberlyn will be able to help her grandma out and have family close by.

From the very beginning the powerful Wolf brothers make it clear they don't want her there. Everyone in the school seems to fear them, or want to date then. Timberlyn is not impressed. She finally has friends but she is not going to bow to the resident bullies. When girls start disappearing from the school she is sure the Wolf posse has something to do with it and she is determined to find out what is going on. Even as she finds herself drawn to one of the brothers, she refuses to turn a blind eye like everyone else does. That may come back to bite her.

Please note that the end is not the end, it is only the beginning

Awesome start to an Academy Paranormal Mystery

I am currently so obsessed with the Academy book trend going on right now in the Indy world, and Year One:Wolf Moon was such a great new installment for me to get lost in. The best way to classify this story would be an Academy story with the perfect amount of drama and angsty meets a paranormal mystery.

The entire plot was mysterious, from the main character, Timberlyn, feeling out of sorts and unwanted at her regular school/life, to her strange acceptance at a new boarding school she has never heard about, to the power of the Wolf brothers over everyone else at the school, and the huge issue of the missing girls. Timberlyn has always been curious and tries her boundaries, so instead of taking her new start and rolling with it, she wants answers and completely upsets the status quo and I loved that about her.

The book was an incredibly fast read, something I finished in a day. The ending was as big a cliffhanger as can come and I need more now. I have so many questions and tons of concerns that I need answered so there is no doubt that I will continue on in the series. This is my first read by this author and now I am excited to jump into more of her stories. This is perfect for anyone who likes spunky awkward heroines, aloof love interests, paranormal mysteries and wolves.

As a side note. I listened to the audiobook and this narrator is easily one of my favorites. I have listened to her do many other audios and I love that she brings life and personality to all the characters and each one gets their own voice so I never have confusion who is talking. I will gladly listen to more audiobooks be narrated by her.

Let this howl grab your ears

Book 1 in the series . This story had me listening all day . I couldn’t put it down . This audio is not only reverse harem with Wolfs but full of mystery and suspense. .
What happens when the heroine , Timberlyn, gets a letter to an academy that she doesn’t remember applying to . It’s for gifted people. Timberlyn doesn’t think she’s gifted all she knows is she’s called a freak for having weird dreams , always wearing black and drawing weird pictures. She also has dreams about wolfs she feels connect to . Once she gets to the academy that is where everything happens. She makes 2 great friends, which she never had back home , Girls go missing, nobody knows why . 4 gorgeous guys with sky blue eyes are being hostile to her , she doesn’t know why . One of them Alaric warns her off from going to the school from day one . Alaric and Timberlyn has a chemistry, which is scorching hot but she still doesn’t know why he is nasty to her. She finally figures what is going on it all happens in the woods in a hut . Thing is once she enters the hut everything falls into place . She knows Alaric was only trying to protect her , from what ? Is the school for gifted people , Do the other's have gifts what are they . Who did she shoot in the cabin . You need to listen to this to get answers . Can’t wait for book 2 .
Vanessa Moyen performance was great . Her voice is strong, smooth and steady. She did all the characters great

Something wicked this way comes

Timberlyn has had dreams of monsters for years. She is accepted to a special academy in Canada, which takes her away from the bullying kids in her Arkansas school. She meets the Wolf brothers at Ravenwood Academy and she knows there is something different about them.
This is pretty well done. There is quite a bit of focus on attraction and teen sexual behavior. The story ends on a cliffhanger with Timberlyn in trouble.
The narrator is enjoyable to listen to.

Ravenwood Academy

Ravenwood Academy (Year One: Wolf Moon) is a ya fantasy/paranormal series. Begins a new series brimming with mystery, secrets and sprinkles of romance. We begin with a strong foundation, and I'm looking forward to delve deeper into the backgrounds of the Wolf Brothers. The main female protagonist Timberlyn is well fleshed out with detaied upbringing. Supporting character's bring more mystery to the narrative. I loved the plot twists surrounding the mystery of Ravenwood Academy. I loved the cliffhanger at the end leading into book two. Looking forward to listening to book two when its available.

Narator Vanessa Moyen is the perfect choice to narate this series. I absolutely loved her performance. Her inflection fit the character Timberlyn perfectly (age appropriate). Easily distinction between the characters. Her inflection was smooth and saccharine. Looking forward to listening to more.

Year One

I'm loving Timberlyn's story. I honestly have no clue where it is going, but I am really loving that about it. This is a great story with mystery and action and just makes you want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. I can't wait to read book 2 and find out what happened with that cliffhanger.

Ravenwood Academy

The book starts of well and there is plenty of suspense that has you listening intentaly to the audiobook. However, I did not like the ending, I felt it was anticlimatic. Also, we don't get a lot of answers and it ends on a cliff hanger.
Young adults might enjoy this more then I did.
This book has profanity, some mild violence and no sex scenes but they do discuss it. There is a scene also were a teen is pressed up (in a sexual way) against an older man (fourty year old). Nobody seemed to bat an eyelash in the book about it.
This in my opinion is for upper YA and not 14+.

Good introduction

“That’s where they hide. In the woods. That’s Ravenwood Forest. The town of Ravenwood is just over the mountain. That’s where your school is.” - Gramma

Timberlyn has always been somewhat of an outcast at her school and bullied for being different. Her drawings of the monsters that have plagued her dreams since childhood are a particular source of ridicule. When a letter arrives stating that she has been accepted at the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the Exceptionally Gifted, she jumps at the chance for a fresh start, despite the fact that she doesn’t remember ever applying there.

On the day of enrolment, Timberlyn is disconcerted when she runs into a hostile boy at the main gate who warns her to leave. Surprised by his animosity, Timberlyn refuses to let him intimidate her. Her roommate Delilah does little to dispel her doubts and rebuffs her attempts at friendship. Luckily Timberlyn finds a friend in Svana and her brother Viktor.

Timberlyn comes to realise that the Academy is run by the Wolf brothers, three surly, thuggish and insanely gorgeous guys. Timberlyn recognises their leader, Alarick, as the antagonistic boy who told her to leave on her first day. Despite their enmity towards her as well as her friends warning her to stay away from them, Timberlyn can’t help feeling drawn to them:

"I didn’t know why I couldn’t stop provoking them. I knew I was poking a beast, but I couldn’t contain my curiosity about them. I had to know. More than that, I couldn’t stand them having so much power, thinking they ran the world. If I couldn’t unseat them from their thrones, maybe I could at least unsettle them. I could be the earthquake that shook the ground their thrones sat on, make them sweat a little."

Unbeknownst to Timberlyn however, Ravenwood Academy is hiding a dark secret and when two girls go missing, she is determined to uncover the truth. Her investigation leads to a terrifying discovery in the forest surrounding the academy that Timberlyn recognises from her dreams.

“What?” I said. It was a moment before I saw what she saw, the thing I felt. My heart stopped. A dark formless black swirled in front of us, and inside it glowed a pair of white eyes without pupils. My dream. I knew it was the thing from my nightmare..

Just what is the dark formless smoke hiding in the shadows of the forest? Timberlyn’s determination to uncover the truth will come at a terrible price...

Wolf Moon is the first instalment of the Ravenwood Academy series and was my first introduction to the author. The book introduces fifteen year old Timberlyn who is plagued by nightmares as well as vivid dreams of people before she has met them. Bullied by her peers at school in Arkansas, she jumps at the chance to start a new life when she’s given a placement at Ravenwood Academy in Canada. Unfortunately the Academy is not what it seems and when two girls go missing, Timberlyn discovers that they are not the only students to have gone missing over the years. Determined to uncover the veil of secrecy surrounding the Academy as well as the Wolf brothers, Timberlyn soon finds herself out of her depth.

Timberlyn is a resilient, tenacious, snarky and defiant protagonist. The Wolf brothers, who consist of Alarick, Adolf and Donavan, were intriguing and I look forward to exploring their backgrounds in further detail. At times I felt that the book might have benefited from including Alarick’s point of view.

The secondary characters were interesting. It was apparent throughout that Delilah, Svana and Viktor were keeping secrets from Timberlyn but their reasons are a mystery. Gramma was a particularly interesting character and I suspect she is not as absent minded as she makes out.

All in all, the book was fast paced with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed. The author has deftly managed to introduce the main characters and lay the foundation for what looks to be a promising series. I look forward to learning more about the Wolf brothers and exploring Timberlyn’s unknown ‘gift’ as well as the mysterious presence in the forest.

I received an advanced free audible copy of Wolf Moon which was narrated by Vanessa Moyen. Her clear, concise delivery made it easy to differentiate between characters.
