Publisher's summary

All Timberlyn wants is to get out of her small town, where she's branded a freak just because she happens to wear all black and draw gruesome monsters in her notebooks.

When a letter arrives saying she's been accepted to the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the exceptionally Gifted, she jumps at the chance. Never mind that she's not sure what she's supposedly gifted at, or the fact that she doesn't remember actually applying there.

When she arrives, the school seems like a dream full of beautiful people ready to befriend her. There's only one problem with Ravenwood: it's run by Alarick Wolf and his brothers, three surly, thuggish, insanely gorgeous guys. Timberlyn's new friends give strict instructions to stay far away from them.

Unfortunately, she's not good at taking orders.

When girls at the school begin disappearing, Timberlyn refuses to maintain the status quo. She's sure Alarick and the Wolf boys are up to something, and if she has to, she'll take them down herself.

That is, if they don't take her down first.

This is a slow burn romance series appropriate for 14+ due to language. Though there are several guys in Timberlyn's life, this is not Reverse Harem.

Cliffhanger warning.

Ok

I struggled with this story. Too many expected moments. I really didn't like the ending. I am not a fan of cliff hangers. I believe that if you can write a compelling story you can complete it and point to the next story.

Not a Stand alone

Ends is a cliffhanger but all the the sequels are available so not a big deal but its not a finished story and you'll want to know what happens next. It's an intriguing story with great characters and a lot of questions not many answers in this first installment. Narration is done well. Looking forward to see what comes next.

Meh

Let me begin by saying this is the first book I’ve ever read by this author and it surprisingly kept my interest the entire way through enough for me to want to see what book 2 was about. I would say this book is a solid 3.75 star almost 4. I would’ve given this more stars but I enjoy romance books and this, at least to me, was more of a friend zone type relationship instead of a Hero and heroine type book.

As to narration, I loved this narrator. I would seek out other books she reads as I find her voice easy to listen to.

A misfit teen finds friendship and intrigue

This is the first novel in the Ravenwood Academy trilogy of young adult paranormal mystery by Lena Mae Hill. The main mysteries introduced in this book are resolved by the end, but the story ends on an excruciating cliffhanger, so I wouldn’t recommend starting this unless you’re willing to read the whole series in order. It’s great fun, so I do recommend the series to fans of this genre.

I liked the premise of this book, with a bullied misfit who dreams of monsters finding friendship and intrigue at a mysterious private academy. I know that academy books have been quite the trend recently, but this is the first one I’ve read, and I really enjoyed it.

I liked the characters, and I can’t wait to get to know them better. Our main character, 15-year-old Timberlyn, is impulsive and sometimes reckless, but that makes sense for her age. Her grandmother is funny, and I wonder what secrets she might be hiding. All of Timberlyn’s classmates seem to have secrets, too, only some of which are revealed in this first book.

This was a quick read that easily kept my interest. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

I really enjoyed the narration by Vanessa Moyen. Her performance was well paced and easy to understand, and I enjoyed the character voices. I think this is a great choice for listening.

I was provided a free review copy of this audiobook by the author via StoryOrigin; I volunteered to provide an honest review.

Enjoyable paranormal YA Academy story

This is an entertaining paranormal YA academy audiobook with some minor hints of possible reverse harem. Timberlyn has never fit in at her Arkansas high school and has always felt out of step with life in her home town. Dreams that seem real, goth attire, a snarky humour and drawings of monsters set her apart. When out of the blue she gets accepted to a Canadian boarding school for the gifted she jumps at the chance, especially as it is in the same town her grandmother lives in. School life at Ravenwood is not what Timberlyn expected and when girls start disappearing, she can not help but try to find out why. Told from a teenager’s point of view, this story has drama, intrigue, action, and highlights all the insecurities, angst and lack of insight that teens seen to feel. There are hints of romance, hot moody guys, secrets and a tense, somewhat creepy cliffhanger at the end. The narrator brings out the characters personalities well, shows good emotion and the voices she uses fits the age group perfectly. I enjoyed the spunky, “in with both feet” attitude of Timberland, the grumpy, brooding demeaner of Alarick Wolf and the slow unraveling of the plot that leads to the suspenseful ending. Overall, this is an entertaining story that is a good fit for the target audience.

Intriguing Start of Series

This is an intriguing start to this series. We are introduced to the characters and given some back story. The story has a steady pace with some suspense. There are more questions than answers at this point but I'm interested enough to go on to book 2. The narrator was wonderful at bringing the story to life.
