Publisher's summary

In Night Black, Cold and Rain, Comes a Man Without a Name.

In the cold, empty underbelly of an ODIN-class command station run by a tyrannical dictator, Mila has been sold by her deadbeat father for a fortune, with the promise that she can refine extremely rare and volatile starship fuel. The problem is, she can't. Not until the mysterious "Rattle Man" makes her a bargain, and Mila finds herself mixed in with much worse than tyrants.

Now, to escape the Rattle Man and the tyrant, Mila must put her humble roots behind her. But she can't do it alone. She'll have to enlist the help of new allies, including a biomechanical Berserker, a refugee Blademaster, and a vengeful Void Pirate, and discover a dormant, godlike power within herself. Then, she may just have a chance to challenge both dictators and deities alike. Rattle Man, a story set in a star system rooted in Norse mythology, tells an updated version of the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale from the perspective of the doomed daughter.

Fans of Marissa Meyer's Cinder and Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology, which helped build the world of this novel, will lose themselves in this new sci-fi adventure.

Excellent!

We listened to Rattle Man on a road trip. We have 3 teens, and they are pretty picky avid readers. No one wanted to get out of the van and pause this one. The story was unique and kept everyone's attention. It has romance, so that kept our daughter happy. The romance wasn't the main storyline though, so that kept our boys happy. There is some language throughout, but not over the top. The violence is detailed in spots, but we would say equivalent to a PG-13 film. Highly highly recommend and can't wait for a second!

Dramatic Story With Well-Woven Sci-Fi & Action

Going into this book, I was intrigued by the premise and was ready for anything, but I was not prepared for how dramatic and well-written “Rattle Man” is. Serving as a wonderful introduction to this fictional world and an entertaining story, readers looking for both a standalone story and the first installment of a chronicles series will love “Rattle Man.” This easy-to-get-into tale draws influence from Norse mythology but still creates a world and characters all its own. Readers can expect action, memorable characters, and twists that will leave them guessing all the way to the final climax. Fans of audiobooks will LOVE Andrew Sellon’s immersive storytelling and phenomenal narration, sucking them into every single scene. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Cannot believe this is a first book

Phenomenal story building to what has the potential to be this era’s Percy Jackson But, in this case, built for a mature audience and brings Norse mythos with the sci-fi genre. Excited for the next installment. Fantastic oration.

Topnotch engaging story and narration!!!

I'm a huge fan of Andrew Sellon's acting; his versatility with voices and accents--and just embodying characters-- brought this story to life in a way that I've found few narrators able to do. And EH Gaskins? What an amazing debut! Clearly Rattleman is the first of a series; I honestly can't wait for book 2!!

Terrible

This book is awful. It's not science fiction at all. It cheap viking mythology. The main character is the bad guy or bad god. Last two or so hours is a stupid battle where the bad guys never die. I had to skip and skip skip to get to the end, just so I could write this review.
