Good learning tool

The music in the background is unnecessary and annoying. I wish I could filter it out
The content is good

Upbeat, Soothing, Entertaining

Light, upbeat, soothing. British male traveller is taught basic phrases and encouraged by an italian woman. Excellent for driving in the car due to short useful phrases, music, and varying tonality in the voices. I find it easier to concentrate on when driving than lessons which have only one monotonous voice. I wish there were more advanced volumes as well.

Best Intro

This is the best intro, and approach to learning a language than I have ever encountered. When people first learn a language it should definitely be without seeing written text, and this perfects it. It has a catchy beat with differing music which keeps you interested, and most importantly learning!

Great CD-Awesome Material

This CD offers a very good start for learning italian. Its catchy frases and cool music make it perfect to learn. It is really relaxing to ear yet energetic enough to achieve the goal of keeping your attention while teaching you Italian. I recomended it. It contains basis terminology but no grammar.

Casual learner

If you are interested in casually learning a language, or being able to speak and recognize useful phrases for travel get this.

I got bored listening to other learning language books because they took so much time to explain things like verb endings and tense. Cool if you're interested in linguistics and grammar, but not what I wanted.

In this book's first chapter I learned "vorrei" "I would like" and "per favore" "please" after chapter 1 I can say 20 useful phrases by using : vorrei "noun" per favore.

The music also helps me recall words I've forgotten. I think about the music in the chapter and that usually helps me pull the word.

Why didn't someone think of this sooner!

I listen to a SCADS of language tapes and am so excited by this company's work. They gently, but effectively cover the key survival phrases. The speakers have much more appealing voices than most, and the background music - even if it is a little "Euro-Disco" - helps break the monotony as well.

The program also breaks down chapters nicely for numbers, dates, and other key areas so it's easy to jump back to a section you need to review. I can't wait for Volume II to arrive.

A good idea and..

I was influenced by the reviews. I think it is an excellent idea to couple learning with music.
As there may be others like me 'out there' I am reviewing this.
From being a kid I have filtered out sounds I do not like. Sometimes it is voluntary, sometimes not. So if I am in a situation where the conversation has no interest for me I listen to.. something elce..., or simply tune out.
Sadly I do not like the music behind the voice in this audio. So I automatically 'tune out'.
I do it with radio too, until I hear something that interests me.
There is a free system for vocab called BYKI. Good for vocab and pronunciation. I am now using both.
I am not going to write 'this system does not work' because I think if you like or tolerate 'musack' type sounds then it would work.
I would like to have an alternative to the background sounds provided. Fit it to Chopin or some good Miles Davis and I would now be able to converse with the cabbie in Italian.
I am persevering and ...if you want to try this...Kushti Buk ('good luck'..in Romany)

Very Relaxing Learning

I have really enjoyed this download. Although it is very short it is a great way to burn the Italian into your long tem memory. I really like the music behind the instruction and find that it helps me listen to it over and over again. I had learned Italian for two semesters and found this as a great refresher and a way for it to stay in my memory forever. I am desperatly waiting for volume 2 to come out!

Really gets you talking

In several years as a listener, I've never taken time to review a book, but this one deserves to be recommended. I've studied Italian for several years as a hobby, and this is the best resource I've seen to get you to actually practice. The rhythm motivates you to speak along with the teacher. I don't know if it would be as useful to someone with no basic knowledge of the language, but it is excellent for practical usage once you've got the basics. Most audios do not motivate you to speak out loud back to them, which is really the only way to get good at it. I've listened to it over and over, as well as Volume 2 which is also excellent.
